The Starry Night is an oil on canvas painted by Duch post-impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh in June 1889.It's one of the most famous and recognized paintings of  Van Gogh, this painting has been in permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

People said that this painting was painted by memory which is actually, inaccurate. The view has been identified as the one from his bedroom's window, facing east, where he painted variations no fewer than twenty-one times including the Starry Night.

Van Gogh depicted the view at different times of day and under various weather conditions including sunrise,moonrise,sunshine-filled days, overcast days, windy days and rainy days.By the way,the Starry Night is the only nocturne in the series of views from his bedroom's window. In the letter he wrote to his brother "This morning I saw the countryside for a long time from the window before the sunrise with nothing but the morning star, which looked very big."Researchers claimed that the brightest star in painting is actually Venus.

Despite many letters Van Gogh wrote,he said little about the Starry Night, compared with other painting at the same period,Van Gogh didn't like the Starry Night so much,he described it as a "failure".

Noted art historian Meyer Schapiro highlights the expressionistic aspects of The Starry Night, saying it was created under the "pressure of feeling" and that it is a "visionary painting inspired by a religious mood."

Art historian Lauren Soth also finds a symbolist subtext in The Starry Night, saying that the painting is a "traditional religious subject in disguise and a "sublimated image of Van Gogh's deepest religious feelings."

But what kinds of comments people put towards the Starry Night,it does have influenced many people.

Don McLean was inspired by the Starry Night and the death of Van Gogh.
