Which “Game of Thrones” character will be killed off first when Season 7 premieres?

“Game of Thrones” fans have come to accept the fact that even the most beloved characters aren’t safe. The HBO original series is slated to premiere its seventh season — the second to last in the show’s anthology — this summer. With so few episodes remaining, it seems certain that more than a few characters are going to be killed off, but which ones?

“Game of Thrones” fans have begun taking bets about the first big death of Season 7. Based on a survey of 10,000 fans by Oddsmakers, Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) are safe. Viewers predict other longtime characters won’t be as lucky.

Thronies pegged Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), Melisandre (Carice von Houten), Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) and/or Jorah Mormont (Iain Glenn) as the most likely first deaths. Other characters believed to be in danger when “Game of Thrones” returns include Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan), Gregor Clegane aka “The Mountain” (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner).

Thronies have also taken bets on Arya’s (Maisie Williams) first kill of Season 7. Many fans believe, especially after seeing her kill Walder Frey (James Bradley) in the Season 6 finale, that she’ll focus her energy on crossing names off her kill list as she makes her way back to her siblings in Westeros. Oddsmakers have pegged her first kill as either Sandor Clegane aka “The Hound” (Rory McCann), “The Mountain” or Cersei.

Death theories aren’t the only ones circulating ahead of the “Game of Thrones” Season 7 premiere. On Wednesday, following Williams’ revelation that the season will feature a “major cliffhanger,” a Reddit theory about the Season 7 finale resurfaced. Fans speculated that the show will end with Jon and Daenerys consummating their relationship, which will then cause The Wall to fall. There has been no confirmation of this theory to date, but it seems plausible. Jon and Daenerys are slated to come together in Season 7, though it’s not clear what the nature of their relationship will be. The pair are related but, as the Lannister siblings have shown us, that means little to nothing.

During an interview with Time Out, Williams — who is very anti-spoiler — told the publication that Season 7 will be the culmination of everything that the main cast has been through thus far. She explained that Season 6 saw Arya, Jon, Sansa, Daenerys and the others reach “a climax,” and in the upcoming episodes they will all start working toward their respective ends. What that will mean for their futures heading into Season 8 — the final season of “Game of Thrones” — is not clear, even to Williams.
