Members of parliament in Britain have rejected the plan that the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson to hold a general election in December to try to break the deadlock over Brexit. Mr. Johnson said he will re-submit the proposal on Tuesday, using an alternative method, which will be subject to amendments that can pass with a simple majority.

An overnight curfew is enforced in the Iraqi capital Baghdad after renewed clashes between anti-government protesters and security forces left several people dead. But reports from the city say thousands of people have defied the curfew, filling the streets with loud music and the blaring of car horns.

The Nigerian authorities say more than 150 inmates have escaped from a prison that partly collapsed in heavy rain. The medium security jail is near the city of Lokoja .
