Part 3 Summary

RK gave a sealed envelop to Amir. Inside were a photo and a letter written by Hassan.   Hassan told Amir about his life and something about his son, Sohrab. After RK went to Peshawar to receive treatment, the Taliban officials came to the house and order Hassan to get his family out of the house. Hassan protested and was shot. Farzana attacked them and was also shot, under the pretext of self-defense. And Hassan's son was sent to an orphanage. RK insisted Amir should go to Kabul to save Hassan's son. With much hesitation, Amir was not willing to go back Kabul. But RK told him a secret that Hassan was his half-brother.  Totally shocked by RK's words and his father' s lie, Amir thought he had to reoriented and reevaluate himself and his surroundings.

Eventually, Amir still decided to go to Kabul. Farid, a man who drove for Amir, thought Amir came back only to sell their house and went back to American for a peaceful life.  Walking through the hometown and seeing the poverty in the land of his country, Amir felt like a tourist in his own country. Staying at Farid's brother's home, Amir was treated to their only food, leaving three children nothing to eat.  The next day,  Amir planted a fistful of crumpled money under a mattress, just like what he had done 26 years ago, but with different purpose.

Part 4
