Roy: Hi, Connie! Do you have any change?
Connie: What for?
Roy: I want some coins for the pay phone.
Connie: I see. Here you are.
Roy: Thank you.
Connie: You're welcome.

罗伊：嗨,康妮!你有零钱吗?
康妮：干嘛?
罗伊：我想要些硬币打投币电话。
康妮：找明白了。拿去吧!
罗伊：谢谢你。
康妮：别客气。

II. Key Points重点提示

1. change [tʃendʒ] n.零钱（不可数）
   注意：
   上面括号内“不可数”三字，并非指零钱不能数；零钱当然可数，如一块美元（a dollar）、两块美元（two dollars）、三毛钱（three dimes）等；“不可数”这三个字乃指change这个英文单词不能数。我们不能说一个零钱（a change）、两个零钱（two changes）。change作“零钱”解时，无复数形。
   中文：你有多少零钱?
   英文: How many changes do you have? ( X )
   →How much change do you have? ( O )
   中文：我有20块美元的零钱。
   英文: I have twenty dollars in change. ( O )
2. Do you have any change?
   (你有零钱吗?)
   I want some coins for the pay phone.
   (我想要些硬币打投币电话。)
   any与some均可作数量形容词，之后均可置可数或不可数名词，但用法有別:
   a. any使用于疑问句或否定句中
   b. some使用于肯定句中。
   1)疑问句
   例: Do you need any help?
   (你需要帮助吗?)
   2)否定句
   例: He doesn't need any help.
   (他不需要任何帮助。)
   3)肯定句
   例: He needs some help.
   (他需要一些帮助。)
3. What for? 为什么?
   = why?
4. coin [kɔɪn] n. 硬币
5. pay phone ['pe, fon ] n. 投币电话，付费电话
6. I see. 我明白了。
   =I understand.

• understand ['ʌndɚ'stænd] vi. 了解
  例: A: Bill is studying for his test.
  B: Oh, I see.
  (甲：比尔正在为他的考试而念书。)
  (乙：哦,我知道了。)

7. Here you are. 拿去吧!
   例: A: Please pass me the salt.
   B: Here you are.
   (甲：请把盐递给我。)
