Why he ran out

One day a man came home at midnight.His house is on the 14th floor.He went into the elevator.After a few seconds,he found the eighth floor light.He thought it must be someone on the 8th floor want to take the elevator.After a while he hit the 3th,4th and 5th floors abruptly.As soon as the door opened,he ran out.He stayed in the convenience store near the building until the next day.So why?
