根据多方资料信息反馈来看,CATTI二级英译汉实务考题多出自考试前一年,美国《纽约时报》的文章。《纽约时报》是产自美国纽约的日报,在全世界发行,在国际上相当有影响力;它是美国严肃报刊的代表,因风格古典严肃,有时也被戏称为“灰色女士”(The Gray Lady)。

考虑到其文章风格与报刊的影响力,常被选做CATTI考题题源。但原文一般较长,为配合大纲要求,在不影响前后连贯的基础上,通常会对原文做一定的内容删减。

汇总近几年的CATTI二级英译汉实务真题文章,不难发现,主要以人文社科类文章为主,且基本每年都有两篇涉及美国本土,两篇涉及欧洲、非洲、澳洲等其他大陆的文章(目前暂未出现有关中国、俄罗斯以及中东国家社会情况的英文文章)。形式上多为小品文,文章大多采用夹叙夹议的方式推进(经常见到said+人名+机构/职位)。

再考虑到政治等相关因素,选题一般会避免有争议的话题,如堕胎、收养、艾滋病、同性恋、双性恋、种族或者政治、宗教信仰等敏感话题。

综上所诉,所选文章的态度多是偏中立的,感情色彩不明显(如“摩斯电码”发明人介绍、“乔布斯妻子”介绍、“科学家的非洲研究经历”等);也有少量持褒扬或针砭态度,如“苹果公司文化”(褒扬态度)、“美国人文学科衰落”(批评态度)。因而,在翻译过程中,需要参考原文基调,以免译错意思,甚至得出相反结论。

此外,另一类文章也常有出现,主题是科学发现、环境保护。如“海洋考古发现、蜜蜂死亡问题、荷兰海平面上升危机、火星发现水”。总体来说,文章结构一般采用“先介绍某个事情+(正反)评论”的形式。例如,2015年5月的“荷兰海平面上升危机”先介绍某个案例,然后进行说理分析。

2014年11月的“蜜蜂死亡问题”则是先进行叙事描述,然后陈述正反两方观点,而结论走中立路线。而2013年5月的“海洋考古发现”文章结构采用先叙述,然后辅以不同人物评论的形式。但是,2016年5月的“火星发现水”文章体例有些例外,文章基本上是平铺直叙,直到结尾都没有出现主旨句。

从整体上看,考题文章语言平实、朴素,有少量生词,借助大部头字典基本可以解决。

再来就是,文章中通常会出现两三个人名、机构名或者城市名称等,对于有固定译法的遵守固定译法,如果没有,可以直译单词意思,辅以“音译”。音译时,最好采用加括号解释说明的方式,如Louis Leakey在翻译时,翻译成:路易士•李基(Louis Leakey)。
