1. Words and phrase

1)      Writing the cards from there was a breeze.

Breeze: means something was easy to complete.

e.g.: It was a breeze.

2)      Rowley tried to break his fall by sticking out his arms, but he landed pretty hard on his left hand.

Stick out: 这里指伸出手臂,也可以有突出,明显的意思。

e.g.: Wearing this red dress made me stuck out.

3)      I tried to cheer him up, but all the jokes that usually crack him up weren’t working.

Crack up: 惹人笑

e.g.: I don’t think this video is funny, but she was cracked up.

4)      I tried to cash in on some of Rowley’s new popularity, but it totally backfired.

Backfire: 产生适得其反的恶果

e.g.: I tried to help him out, but it totally backfired.

5)      I couldn’t figure out why the girls weren’t swarming me like they swarmed Rowley, but then I realized what the problem was.

Swarm: 蜂拥成群(而去)

e.g.: Once David showed up at the airport, the fans swarmed him immediately.

2.      Sentences

1)      But being good at sewing does not exactly buy you popularity points at school.

e.g.: Being good at playing basketball does not exactly buy you any points for entering this school.

2)      What really ticks me off about that is that Rowley is right-handed, and it’s his left hand that’s broken.

e.g.: What really ticks me off about that is that he is not

3.      Dairy

I got a heavy rain outside just now. It rained like cats and dogs. I didn't bring a umbrella along, so I was totally wet. But what ticked me off most was that I almost felt down at the elevator. My shoes slipped and I stuck out my arm to break the fall. Fortunately, I got someone beside caught me immediately. It was a close call. Thanks god!
