Life goes on in
locked-downcity of Wuhan
我们的封城日记
It has been over two months since the lockdown(封锁) of Wuhan. This might be the longest holiday ever for the children in the city. But they have found new ways to make staying at home an interesting and meaningfultime. How do they spend their time? Are there any memorable(值得纪念的) moments in their lives? Let’s take a look!
Whatisa‘lockdown’?
Wuhan has been on lockdown since Jan 23. No flights, trains or buses can leave or enter the city. People in Wuhan cannot take public transportation (公共交通). Most of them cannot drive, either. They have to stay at home.
‘My mom is fighting the virus.I’m proud of her!’
赵小北,8岁,武汉市硚口区东方红小学
Since the lockdown, I’ve moved in with my grandparents. This is because my mom is a doctor. Her job is to intubate(给……插管) patients. When doing this, the virus might jump from the patients to her. It’s very dangerous. For my safety(安全), she asked me to stay at my grandparents’ house. We cannot meet until she beats the virus.
When my mom is not here with me, I look after myself. I always get up at 8 am. Then I begin to study by myself. I also play sports every day at home. Mom and I often have video calls on WeChat. Sometimes I see her wearing heavy protective suit(防护服). She must be tired, but she is saving people. I’m very proud of her!
My grandparents do not know how to shop online. But many volunteers(志愿者) come to help us. They send food and other goods to us. One day, I woke up at 6 in the morning. I looked down through the window and saw them carrying big boxes. They work so hard!
‘We pass on love to one another.’
徐旖晨,12岁,武汉市武昌实验寄宿小学美林分校
During this long holiday, I couldn’t go to school, so I took many onlineclasses. My teacher is a volunteer from Peking University. I have learned a lot from him. An idea came into my mind: there are many students like me in Wuhan. They may also need my help. So I joined aprogram(项目) called Chinese America Citizens Alliance(中美公民联盟) and became a volunteer. My job is to teach English for grade 4 students online every week. In my class, I answer the students’ questions, and I also teach them some new knowledge. Helping people makes me happy.
‘I’m always with you.’
马沧澜,11岁,武汉市武昌实验寄宿小学美林分校
I’m a student from Wuhan. But this Spring Festival, I went to Jiangsu province to visit my grandparents.
My friends and I talk about the virus in a QQ group. We share funny pictures and jokes. In this way, we encourage each other.
On Jan 27, some people in Wuhan sang from their windows to cheer themselves up. I was moved(感动) by the news. So I drew a cartoon about it. I want to let more people know about our heroic(英雄的) city.
I also played the guzheng(古筝) for patients in Wuhan. I played Blue and White Porcelain (《青花瓷》) and made a recording(录音). My teacher helped me send it to a cabin hospital(方舱医院). Patients there can feel relaxed when hearing it.
Here comes spring
Spring is here. The flowers bring happiness to everyone in Wuhan, especially the fighters on the frontline. Because of their hard work, the city can enjoy a beautiful spring.
Doctors and nurses walk under the cherry blossoms (樱花).
Doctor Ye Qing waves goodbye to recovered (痊愈的) patients.
Jiang Chen is a community worker (社工). She brings food to people every day.
Feng Feng, a community worker, buys bags of medicine for people in Wuhan.
