Ethereum Constantinople And Petersburg Hard Fork Scheduled For February 25
Ethereum hard fork co-ordinator Afri Schoedon revealed on Reddit that the next fork will activate on February 25, 2019, at block #7,280,000. This is the third time it has been scheduled, after cancelling it once on October 2018 and another time last month. However, this time, two forks will be taking place on the same block. The first is Constantinople, which will come with all its planned improvement. The next fork is called Petersburg, and it will disable the protocols in which issues were identified previously.

Possible Monero Fork Upcoming on March 9th at Block 1788000
A recent post on the Monero (XMR) Reddit page indicates that the community may be planning on a hard fork at Block 1788000, estimated to occur on March 9th. The move comes in response to recent analysis that showed that 85% of the XMR network hashrate is done with AISC mining rigs as opposed to GPU mining, something that the Monero community seeks to avoid. According to the post, the details and date have not been finalized, but nonetheless members of the community should be ready for the upcoming switch.

SEC Commissioner says not all ICOs are Securities
In a recent speech titled “Protecting the Public While Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce explained that while she shares in the “very essence” of the ideological platform of blockchain and cryptocurrency, the issue of decentralization complicates the matter for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). According to Peirce, the current securities laws operate under the assumption that “every issuer has someone at the helm who can authoritatively disclose the relevant material information about the organization.” Peirce also said that because blockchain projects “run on diffuse contributions” instead of centralized structures, “there may not be anyone steering the ship.” Peirce concluded by urging regulators to carefully consider whether all crypto-related products require regulation and she suggested the development of a penalty system in place of a blanket ban.

BCH Avalanche Transactions Reveal Finality Speeds are Ten Times Faster Than Ethereum
Over the past weeks, the BCH community has been discussing Avalanche, a pre-consensus method. Currently, the protocol has been used in the full node implementation of Bchd, and its proof of concept is running on the Bitcoin Cash mainnet. According to BCH developers, Avalanche will make the network stronger as it runs parallel with the primary PoW consensus mechanism. Per Bchd developers, after the Avalanche implementation, transactions can be now be finalized after 1.55 seconds, ten times faster than Ethereum. Bitcoin ABC advocate Amaury Sechet believes Avalanche can also protect the blockchain from reorganization attacks.

Core devs need to have skin in the game for any blockchain project, same as any entrepreneurial venture.
And since these native currencies are not paying dividends as stocks do, designing the system to appreciate the value of the currency is a good way to align financial and idealogical values.
