As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps clients prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries. The Country Analysis division of the EIU is seeking applications for the role of Analyst (economics), China. We are looking for someone with a strong interest in and knowledge of China's economy and economic policymaking, as well as an ability to communicate their views and opinions effectively in both oral and written form. Strong quantitative skills in econometrics and modelling are a prerequisite for this role. The Analyst (economics), China will join a team of analysts working on China and Asia and report to the Principal Economist, China.
How you will contribute:

• Produce economic forecasts for China and its regions across a range of EIU products and ongoing economic analysis on key themes and events in China
• Ensure all output meets EIU standards and is produced according to editorial deadlines
• Maintain and develop proprietary datasets and relations with external data providers; bring forward proposals for continually enhancing the data offering
• Play an active role in the origination of country and regional content work that elucidates and develops The EIU view on China
• Promote our work on this topic within The Economist Group and externally, and liaise directly with external clients and media organisations on behalf of The EIU
• Provide briefing engagements and other presentations to clients when required
• To work collaboratively with senior EIU staff members to support new business development and implement divisional strategy

To succeed in the role you must have:

• At least 3 years’ work experience in relevant positions and/or demonstrable experience, such as through a PhD
• Strong, demonstrable knowledge of China’s economy and economic data; interest in sub-national economic developments in China and related themes (such as demographics, urbanisation) is desirable
• A thorough understanding of macroeconomic data, modelling and forecasting techniques and software (such as EViews, VBA, R)
• Strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Mandarin Chinese
• A Master's degree
• Strong knowledge in MS Office especially Excel and Powerpoint

You will be able to demonstrate:

• Attention to detail and ability to ensure consistent high quality products and services
• Strong econometric and modelling skills
• Interest and analytical rigour in issues covering economic, political and risk analysis
