今天听到王烁讲写作，提到了一个部分，时间顺序是一个合格写作者应该使用的，对读者接受度最容易的一个方式。Toni Moriison显然是一个写作的高手，在这几个章节当中，作者不断地变化时间和场景，回到了Paul D做奴隶的时段，又通过the Tobacco Tin lodged in his chest which he believed nothing in this world could pry it open.来回顾他的经历，这也埋下了之后lid of the tin在Beloved的诱惑下打开的伏笔。

skip a meal 是指少吃一顿饭，this在这里指代的是上午中提到的很恐怖的感觉，这句话好像还挺容易理解的，但是自己表达出来的时候感觉还是有难度，拿不准。有朋友回答说他的理解是：this “thing” is so horrible that made death feels trivial in comparison.

这个东西无论是什么，非常可怕，死亡和这东西比起来就好像跳过了一餐没有吃一样。

如果换我来表达这个意思的话，很可能我会写：Death is like skipping a meal compared to this.
