Task 2 of IELTS on Feb.10 2018

题目：

Some people believe that people who read books can develop more imagination and language skills than whose who prefer watching TV.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

坡姐范文：

Modern people spend large amounts of time watching TV as their major leisure activity. But some argue that this trend,in fact ,does no tcontribute to helping cultivate our imagination and language skills .Instead ,books can do that . As far as I am concerned ,I agree with them .

To commence with,  reading books makes it possible for readers to think critically and independently.The course of reading  is also a course of thinking  to a large extent .Readers will unintentionally think why the authors think like this and then deeply analyse ,even question the authors' intention .Therefore, books are,by nature,are perfect means of helping readers shape the life values and perspectives of their own,which is of great significance in fostering their imagination .On the contrary , though TV makes it accessible for individuals to enjoy various programs ,the majority of viewers tend to just receive information mechanically and passively,with few creative activities involved .Because the vivid images and pictures have told them everything what they desire to know .Sadly ,this seriously stifles their imagination .

Apart from that ,I support books to be more beneficial in assisting people to improve language skills on the grounds that most words on the books are characterized by more formal and standard. Accordingly, books create an affinity with human readers ,who can mark and underline important words and sentences.Thereby , a mastery of a foreign language is becoming natural and spontaneous . By contrast ,based on the "trait of entertainment " of  TV, a host of programs' language on the screen is comparatively oral and nonstandard ,which is not conductive to acquiring a new foreign language .

To sum up ,despite the claim that TV offers modern population a wide variety of options of gaining knowledge ,books are more mentally stimulating and plays a vital role in bettering themselves in terms of training imagination and developing language skills .
