Green’s way back home

Sophie Meng

Everyone was staying over at Rapunzel’s party for the whole night. Little Green Rain Cape thought she should be back home before lunch time, otherwise her mum would get very worried about her. Early in the next day morning, she clung onto Rapunzel’s thick, long braids and slid down the tower.

“Don’t forget this!” called Rapunzel, tossing a “thank you for coming” gift bag from the window.
“I thought you might need this since you will go through the Wild Wood on your way home.”
Green opened the gift bag. There was a bookmark, a small bottle of syrupy liquid and a small piece of fabric. Green put them in her backpack with her good book.

Time to set off! Clomp, clomp, clomp. Her boots thumped as they scattered dust and rubble around on the yellow brick road. Suddenly, she heard somebody’s sob which was not far away. When she was getting closer, she found there stood another girl, cuddling a little dog, which was the one who was crying.
“Who are you, poor girl, and what has happened?”
“I’m Dorothy, and this is Toto, my pet,” the girl mumbled while stroking the dog,“ I’m looking for the Wizard of Oz. But the pathway ahead seems blocked by an invisible wall.”
Till then, Green noticed that the brick pathway was turning green which used to be yellow.
“Everything is stopping in time!” Green cried astonished. “I think Sleeping Beauty’s castle is nearby. The evil sorceress blocked the way in order to prevent anyone to rescue the princess.”

Just then, a sorceress in black appeared on a puff of stormy smoke floating in the air.
“Sleeping Beauty has pricked her finger and has fallen asleep.” She cackled, “There is no way you will beat the freeze of the prick!”
“Don’t waste your time even for thinking to have a try,” she added, smirking.

“W…what shall we do?” Dorothy stammered. Her voice was trembling with anxiety.
Green thought for a while and remembered that somewhere in her good book tells how to destroy evil magic. She leafed through the pages but she could not find it. At that moment, the bookmark flew out of her bag and indicated the entry “Fountain” on the Glossary. It showed page 278. Green flicked to that certain page rapidly. In no time a fountain sprang off with a THUD! It dropped on the ground just underneath the floating puff of smoke of the sorceress.
Water could flush away all the evil magic!

Before the sorceress realized what had happened. Green turned on the water flow and switched it to “extremely high” as quick as a flash.
“Ooooouch!’ The wicked sorceress was soaked from head to toe in water. Her stormy smoke had vanished and she had plummeted onto the ground. A breeze of sparking purple dust drifted over, the spell disappeared, the curse was lifted and the brick pathway turned back into normal again.

After a short walk, Green and Dorothy reached a castle covered with thorns and ivies.
Inside a chamber, there was a beautiful princess with golden locks wearing light pink gown who was fast asleep. It was exactly Sleeping Beauty herself. Green took out the little bottle and tipped three golden drops of syrup down into the princess’s mouth. Sleeping Beauty woke up immediately.

Mission accomplished! Time to go home!
Meanwhile, that small piece of fabric jumped out from Green’s bag and transformed into Aladdin’s flying carpet.
“What are you waiting for?” the flying carpet called joyfully, “Climb aboard!”
“First stop, the wizard of Oz’s place!” Cheered Green.
“Hold tight!” the carpet whooshed into the sky and zoomed over sea and land.
