1.反正自己并没吃亏,也许还占了便宜,没得什么可怨。

At any rate, he hadn’t suffered any loss and may even have had the better of it, so there should be no cause for complaint.

2.方鸿渐把这种巧妙的词句和精密的计算来抚慰自己,可是失望、遭欺骗的情欲、被损伤的骄傲,都不肯平伏,像不倒翁,捺下去又竖起来,反而摇摆得利害。

He tried to console himself with these clever phrases and careful calculations,but disappointment, frustrated lust, and wounded pride all refused to settledown, like the doll which always rights itself when pushed over and evenwobbles about more vigorously.

Sherry的笔记:

Frustrated:A frustrated emotion is one that you are not able to express 情感受挫的

•her frustrated love for him她对他的爱情受挫了

Wounded:offended or upsetby what someone has said or done 受伤害的

•awounded expression受伤害的表情

•wounded pride受伤的自尊心

Settledown:短语动词(历经磨难或变化后)安静下来,平静下来 If a situation or a person that has been going through a lot of problems or changes settles down,they become calm.

It’d be fun, after the situation in Europe settles down, to take a trip over toFrance...

等欧洲的局势平定下来后,去法国旅行一趟应该不错。

We saw the therapist four times, and the children have now settled down.

我们去看了四次治疗专家,现在孩子们已经稳定下来了。

Right:If a boat rights itself, it turns itself back to its correct position in the water将(船)扶正;使(船)翻转(到正常位置)

•The canoewill right itself if it capsizes.独木舟如果翻了,它会自己正过来。

Wobble:to (cause something to) shake or move from side to side in a way that shows poor balance (使)摇晃,(使)摇摆

•That bookcase wobbles whenever you put anything on it.那个书架你一放东西就摇摇晃晃。

•Don’twobble the table, please, Dan.丹,别晃桌子好吗?

3.鸿渐听着,暗唤侥幸,便打发了他。吃早饭饭今天下船的那几位都垂丧气。

Fang secretly rejoiced at this piece of good fortune, then sent Ah Liu off with a tip. During breakfast those disembarking were in low spirits.

Rejoice:to feel or showgreat happiness about something 非常高兴;深感欣喜;充满喜悦

•Everyone rejoiced at the news of his safe return.听到他安全返回的消息,大家都欣喜万分。

•She rejoiced in her good fortune.她为自己的好运高兴不已。

好运用的是piece修饰

Send这里有打发走的意思

to cause or order someone to go and do something 送走;派遣

•He was trying to explain but she became impatient and sent him away (= told him toleave).他试图解释,但她却开始不耐烦,把他打发走了。

垂头丧气:be in low spirits

4.孙太太眼睛红肿,眼眶似乎饱和着眼泪,像夏天早晨花瓣上的露水,手指那么轻轻一碰就会掉下来。

Mrs. Sun’s eyes were red and swollen and the corners seemed saturated with tears; they were like the dew on flower petals on a summer morning, and the slightest touch of the finger would cause them to drop.

Sherry的笔记:

Saturate:

(1)to make somethingor someone completely wet 使湿透;浸透;渗透

•He had cut his leg badly, and his trousers were saturated with/in blood.他划破了腿,伤势严重,裤子都被血浸透了。

(2)to fill a thing orplace completely so that no more can be added 使充满;使饱和

•The police saturated (= A large number of police officers were sent into) the area in an attempt to find the missing child.大批员警被派往该地区寻找失踪的孩童。

这段语言点不多,描写得很美。

5.方鸿渐问鲍小姐:“你行李多,要不要我送你下船?”鲍小姐疏远地说:“谢谢你!不用劳你驾,李先生会上船来接我。”

Fang asked Miss Pao, “You have a lot of luggage. Would you like me to help you off the ship?” In a distant tone of voice, she answered, “Thank you. There’s no need for you to bother. Mr.  Li is coming aboard to meet me.”

Sherry的笔记:

送你下船 help you off the ship,总也想不起来用off这种小词。

疏远的语气:in adistant tone of voice

Tone:a quality in thevoice which expresses the speaker’s feelings or thoughts, often towards the person being spoken to (常指对听话人的)语气,腔调,口吻

•I tried to use a sympathetic tone of voice.我试着用一种同情的语气说话。

不用麻烦你:There’sno need for you to bother.

上船:come abroad
