英语写作中“增加”、“减少”的表达总结

说明：这是个老问题，常引起大家纠结，值得理一理。本文可能总结不全，但对于一篇论文（或作文）的写作足够了。

一、常用单词(限动词）

增加：increase, rise, grow, augment, boost, add

减少：reduce, decrease, drop, lower, decline, fall

在这些单词中，increase和decrease用法相同，下面模版中increase都可以用decrease代替

二、用法模版

（1）xxx increase （rise, grow, decline, drop） by x%：xxx增加了百分之x。

（2）xxx increase （decline）from x to x：xxx从x增加到x。

（3）xxx increase （augment, boost, reduce, lower）yyy  (by x%）: xxx使yyy增加了（百分之x）

（4）xx is/are added：增加了xx。例如The overhead of 1mbps is added.

（5）xx rise to （drop to，fall to）：xx增加到……例如：The figure rises to x%. The temperature rises to xx.

（6）xx increase （drop）steadily （rapidly, slightly, drastically, significantly）：xx稳定增加。

（7）reduce可用于被动态，其他一般不用。例如：The complexity is reduced.

increase的过去分词increased可以作为形容词用，例如：inceased cost（增加了的成本）。

注意，某些中文语境的句子不能直接翻译，如“增加到200%”，应该写为：……increased by 100%. 

三、题外补充

超过：exceed, surpass

保持不变：maintain

（1）xx exceed （surpass）150,000：xx超过了150,000

  （2）xx surpass the target set：xx超过既定目标（指标）。

（3）xx maintain the rate （standard, level……）：xx保持比率不变
