Lesson 83 After the elections
The former Prime Minister, Mr. Wentworth Lane, was defeated in the recent elections. He is now retiring from political life and has gone abroad. My friend, Patrick, has always been a fanatical opponent of Mr. Lane's Radical Progressive Party. After the elections, Patrick went to the former Prime Minister's house. When he asked if Mr. Lane lived there, the policeman on duty told him that since his defeat, the ex-Prime Minister had gone abroad. On the following day, Patrick went to the house again. The same policeman was just walking slowly past the entrance, when Patrick asked the same question. Though a little suspicious this time, the policeman gave him the same answer. The day after, Patrick went to the house once more and asked exactly the same question. This time, the policeman lost his temper.' I told you yesterday and the day before yesterday,' he shouted, 'Mr. Lane was defeated in the elections. He has retired from political life and gone to live abroad!' I know,' answered Patrick,' but I love to hear you say it!'

Temper can refer to a tendency to become unreasonably angry. If you’re not sure whether you have a temper, ask your friends — but don’t get mad if you dislike what they have to say.
Temper has a number of related yet distinct meanings. In addition to describing a tendency to anger, temper can also refer to one’s mood in general; if you use the word in this sense, you might describe someone's temper as "angry" or "mild." Temper can also be used as a verb meaning “to restrain.” If you have a nasty temper, you might try tempering your temper by counting to ten whenever you’re tempted to throw a "temper tantrum," or fit.(第一次知道tantrum这次个,看的wimpy kid,超级搞笑的小屁孩儿,那段“快乐读书”的日子一去不复返了)
Are you feeling good or bad, cheerful or irritable right now? This is your mood.
Mood refers to how you feel at the present time. If you want to ask your boss for a raise, wait until he or she is in a good mood. Don't ask, though, if he or she is "in a mood" - that means the person is grumpy. If you are in the mood for something like ice cream or spicy food, you would like to have it now. Mood can also describe the attitude of a group of people or the feeling of a film, novel or piece of music.
unvoiced: only air passes through the mouth
voiced: make the sound with the vocal cords
stop consonants: there are two parts to each sound
1. Stop in airflow
2. Release
the back of the tongue reaches up to touch the soft palate, which is closed; the tip of the tongue can remain forward. lightly touching the back of bottom front teeth; the jaw drops a little bit and the lips are open.
the lip position doesn't matter for these sounds, so the lips might start forming the next sound, like great, you can start the mouth position for R as we make the G
3. 家里的娃儿笑点异于大人,突然想起来: 笑点低用英语怎么说呢? amused by even the weakest joke, ready to laugh at the smallest thing; 那么,笑点呢?funny bits, humorous parts, punchline
He forgot the punchline and the joke fell flat.
to go on a fast/ to break or end your fast
M is a voiced consonant, pressing the lips together lightly while making the sound with the vocal cords.
because the soft palate is lowered, air comes up through the nasal passages
so it's a nasal consonant.
you can feel the vibration in your nose.
Nasal consonants
