去年Kevin Kelly过68岁生日时,我发一篇 Kevin Kelly的68条箴言,今年KK大神一下出了99条。我按照自己的理解和发挥翻译如下,达不到信达雅,仅仅作为一个中国式的解读。

99 Additional Bits of Unsolicited Advice

I have another birthday, and another bunch of unsolicited advice.

1. That thing that made you weird as a kid could make you great as an adult — if you don’t lose it.

伟大卓越源于与众不同,童年时格格不入的特质,可能成年后带来成功。

2. If you have any doubt at all about being able to carry a load in one trip, do yourself a huge favor and make two trips.

估计一次搞不定就多跑2趟。

凡事留有余力,小步快跑,要不然容易扯着蛋。

3. What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals. At your funeral people will not recall what you did; they will only remember how you made them feel.

你达成了什么目标不重要,要看你达成目标过程中的成长变化。

4. Recipe for success: under-promise and over-deliver.

成功的秘诀,多实干,多成事儿,少大言。

5. It’s not an apology if it comes with an excuse. It is not a compliment if it comes with a request.

不要先找借口再道歉,也不要有求于人才夸赞,施恩不图报!

6. Jesus, Superman, and Mother Teresa never made art. Only imperfect beings can make art because art begins in what is broken.

耶稣、超人和特蕾莎修女这些完人不搞艺术,艺术始于残缺和困顿?

7. If someone is trying to convince you it’s not a pyramid scheme, it’s a pyramid scheme.

8. Learn how to tie a bowline knot. Practice in the dark. With one hand. For the rest of your life you’ll use this knot more times than you would ever believe.

9. If something fails where you thought it would fail, that is not a failure.

在你有意识的预见到会出问题的地方跌倒,这不是失败。

要有挑战和练习的心态!!fail early fail fast,不要害怕失败,找机会从失败中学习。

10. Be governed not by the tyranny of the urgent but by the elevation of the important.

要事优先,别被紧急的事儿牵着鼻子走。

11. Leave a gate behind you the way you first found it.

你找到了门路,要原样留给后来者。

学会互利合作,栽树给后人乘凉。

12. The greatest rewards come from working on something that nobody has a name for. If you possibly can, work where there are no words for what you do.

作开创性的事儿收益巨大,尽力作别人不知道或者根本无人问津的事儿。

13. A balcony or porch needs to be at least 6 feet (2m) deep or it won’t be used.

阳台和门廊进深要2米以上,否则你不会用它。

该花钱的地方你别吝啬,好钢用在刀刃上,否则没人用是更大的浪费。

14. Don’t create things to make money; make money so you can create things. The reward for good work is more work.

不要为了钱去做事情,努力赚钱然后作你想做的事儿。你做事儿的动力是事情本身,这才是内驱力。

15. In all things — except love — start with the exit strategy. Prepare for the ending. Almost anything is easier to get into than out of.

除了爱情之外,做事 “未思进,先思退”,事情大多进入容易退出难。

要做好你的ABZ plan,事不随人愿十之八九。

16. Train employees well enough they could get another job, but treat them well enough so they never want to.

培训员工技能 达到别家也愿意聘请的水平,同时要好好待员工,让他们死心塌地。

17. Don’t aim to have others like you; aim to have them respect you.

努力让别人尊敬你,而不是让别人喜欢你。

18. The foundation of maturity: Just because it’s not your fault doesn’t mean it’s not your responsibility.

成熟的个体要意识到,“不是你的错儿,并非你不用担责。”

19. A multitude of bad ideas is necessary for one good idea.

好主意是抛掉一大堆糟点子后剩下的。

数量决定质量,好主意不是凭空冒出来的。

20. Being wise means having more questions than answers.

stay hungry stay foolish!!!不要不懂装懂,要敬畏未知,保持开放的心灵。

21. Compliment people behind their back. It’ll come back to you.

背后赞扬别人,绝不背后嚼舌头,否则你会自食其果。

22. Most overnight successes — in fact any significant successes — take at least 5 years. Budget your life accordingly.

没有一夜成功,背后都是血泪。任何成功都意味着5年以上的积累,要以此为你的人生做预算。

23. You are only as young as the last time you changed your mind.

你若心智开放,可葆青春常在。

24. Assume anyone asking for your account information for any reason is guilty of scamming you, unless proven innocent. The way to prove innocence is to call them back, or login to your account using numbers or a website that you provide, not them. Don’t release any identifying information while they are contacting you via phone, message or email. You must control the channel.

除非被证实的情况,任何人以任何理由要求你提供账户信息都是欺诈行为。证实的方法是主动回拨官方号码或者登录官方网站,不要使用对方提供的。切忌通过电话、短信或邮件泄露任何个人认证信息。必须控制好认证渠道。

KK大神也受电信诈骗的苦吗,哈哈,这么苦口婆心的教育防诈骗。

25. Sustained outrage makes you stupid.

愤怒使人愚蠢。

26. Be strict with yourself and forgiving of others. The reverse is hell for everyone.

严于律己,宽厚待人。 反了你就是他人的地狱!

27. Your best response to an insult is “You’re probably right.” Often they are.

对别人辱骂的最佳回应是“你也许是对的”,通常情况下确实如此。

28. The worst evils in history have always been committed by those who truly believed they were combating evil. Beware of combating evil.

历史上罪大恶极的事儿,都是打着正义旗号的人干的,警惕那些号称正义和一切为了高尚事业的人。

29. If you can avoid seeking approval of others, your power is limitless.

如果你不再寻求别人认可,你将拥有无穷力量。

30. When a child asks an endless string of “why?” questions, the smartest reply is, “I don’t know, what do you think?”

一个小孩儿,没完没了的追问为什么时,最聪明的回答是:“我也不知道,你认为是怎么样的呢?”

31. To be wealthy, accumulate all those things that money can’t buy.

要发财,积累那些钱买不到的东西。

32. Be the change you wish to see.

不断自我更新,你希望自己怎样,就要努力改变。

33. When brainstorming, improvising, jamming with others, you’ll go much further and deeper if you build upon each contribution with a playful “yes — and” example instead of a deflating “no — but” reply.

头脑风暴和与人交往时 只说 Yes -- and,不说No -- but。这样大家才能畅所欲言,才能深入的思考。

34. Work to become, not to acquire.

努力成为什么样的人,而不是获取东西。

35. Don’t loan money to a friend unless you are ready to make it a gift.

36. On the way to a grand goal, celebrate the smallest victories as if each one were the final goal. No matter where it ends you are victorious.

37. Calm is contagious.

41. When hitchhiking, look like the person you want to pick you up.

42. Contemplating the weaknesses of others is easy; contemplating the weaknesses in yourself is hard, but it pays a much higher reward.

43. Worth repeating: measure twice, cut once.

强调再强调:三思而后行!

44. Your passion in life should fit you exactly; but your purpose in life should exceed you. Work for something much larger than yourself.

你的生活热情是应与你相配,但是你的生活意义要超越自我。立志当存高远!

45. If you can’t tell what you desperately need, it’s probably sleep.

你说不出自己迫切需要啥,可能是缺觉啦!

46. When playing Monopoly, spend all you have to buy, barter, or trade for the Orange properties. Don’t bother with Utilities.

玩大富翁要搞定”Orange properties“,交通要道上的核心资产!不要操心公共设施。 

投资买好的,即使是最贵的!!!

47. If you borrow something, try to return it in better shape than you received it. Clean it, sharpen it, fill it up.

还东西时,要把东西弄的比借来时干净/锋利/填满。

好借好还,再借不难!当前留一线,日后好见面哈。

48. Even in the tropics it gets colder at night than you think. Pack warmly.

即使是在赤道,夜里也比你想象的冷。注意保暖。

风口上的猪也要准备降落伞!

49. To quiet a crowd or a drunk, just whisper.

聚会或者喝酒,要想众人安静,仅需小声低语!

响鼓不需重锤!

50. Writing down one thing you are grateful for each day is the cheapest possible therapy ever.

每天记录一件你感恩的事儿,是最简易的疗愈。

51. When someone tells you something is wrong, they’re usually right. When someone tells you how to fix it, they’re usually wrong.

52. If you think you saw a mouse, you did. And, if there is one, there are more.

53. Money is overrated. Truly new things rarely need an abundance of money. If that was so, billionaires would have a monopoly on inventing new things, and they don’t. Instead almost all breakthroughs are made by those who lack money, because they are forced to rely on their passion, persistence and ingenuity to figure out new ways. Being poor is an advantage in innovation.

54. Ignore what others may be thinking of you, because they aren’t.

55. Avoid hitting the snooze button. That’s just training you to oversleep.

57. You are given the gift of life in order to discover what your gift “in” life is. You will complete your mission when you figure out what your mission is. This is not a paradox. This is the way.

58. Don’t treat people as bad as they are. Treat them as good as you are.

以德报怨。

59. It is much easier to change how you think by changing your behavior, than it is to change your behavior by changing how you think. Act out the change you seek.

通过改变行为来改变你的想法容易,反之则难,努力行动寻求你想要的改变。

60. You can eat any dessert you want if you take only 3 bites.

如果你能控制住自己只吃三口,你可以吃任何甜食。

可是做不到呀,不要考验自己的自律能力,还是勿以恶小而为之的好。

61. Each time you reach out to people, bring them a blessing; then they’ll be happy to see you when you bring them a problem.

每次和人联系时都带来些好事儿,当你遇到困难时他们才愿意帮你。

62. Bad things can happen fast, but almost all good things happen slowly.

好事多磨,要有耐心呀少年:)

病来如山倒,病去如抽丝。

63. Don’t worry how or where you begin. As long as you keep moving, your success will be far from where you start.

不要担心你的开始的位置和姿势,你跑就是啦,只要坚持你就离成功越近,离出发点越远。

64. When you confront a stuck bolt or screw: righty tighty, lefty loosey.

拧螺钉或螺栓时,记得向左拧是松,向右拧是紧。

这是专门依据右利手的人性化设计!

65. If you meet a jerk, overlook them. If you meet jerks everywhere everyday, look deeper into yourself.

遇到一个垃圾,你可以无视。要是你无时无刻不遇到垃圾,你要好好检讨自己啦!

66. Dance with your hips.

跳舞一定要会用电臀。

67. We are not bodies that temporarily have souls. We are souls that temporarily have bodies.

68. You can reduce the annoyance of someone’s stupid belief by increasing your understanding of why they believe it.

69. If your goal does not have a schedule, it is a dream.

70. All the greatest gains in life — in wealth, relationships, or knowledge —come from the magic of compounding interest — amplifying small steady gains. All you need for abundance is to keep adding 1% more than you subtract on a regular basis.

71. The greatest breakthroughs are missed because they look like hard work.

90. When making something, always get a few extras — extra material, extra parts, extra space, extra finishes. The extras serve as backups for mistakes, reduce stress, and fill your inventory for the future. They are the cheapest insurance.

做事留有余地,额外的零件,材料和空间,时间。为错误流程裕量,减少压力,为未来积存。这是最便宜的保险。

91. Something does not need to be perfect to be wonderful. Especially weddings.

93. The best way to untangle a knotty tangle is not to “untie” the knots, but to keep pulling the loops apart wider and wider. Just make the mess as big, loose and open as possible. As you open up the knots they will unravel themselves. Works on cords, strings, hoses, yarns, or electronic cables.

作一件简单的事情—啥事儿都成—特别严肃认真的作,仿佛世界上仅此一事儿,整个世界都在其中,你会豁然开朗!

97. History teaches us that in 100 years from now some of the assumptions you believed will turn out to be wrong. A good question to ask yourself today is “What might I be wrong about?”

不要食古不化,历史告诉我们100年足以改变你认为亘古不变的信条。时常自问:“是不是我哪里错了?”

98. Be nice to your children because they are going to choose your nursing home.

对孩子们好点儿,你老了时,要住哪个养老院他们说了算。
