Electric currents in modern art

/ɪˈlɛktrɪk/ /ˈkʌrənts/ /ɪn/ /ˈmɒdən/ /ɑːt/

Oddly shaped forms that are suspended from the ceiling and

/ˈɒdli//ʃeɪpt/ /fɔːmz/ /ðæt/ /ɑː/ /səsˈpɛndɪd/ /frɒm/ /ðə/ /ˈsiːlɪŋ/ /ænd/

move in response to agust of wind are quite familiar to

/muːv/ /ɪn/ /rɪsˈpɒns/ /tuː/ /ə/ /gʌst/ /ɒv/ /wɪnd/ /ɑː/ /kwaɪt/ /fəˈmɪliə/ /tuː/

everybody. These objects, however, were different. Lined up

/ˈɛvrɪbɒdi./ /ðiːz/ /ˈɒbʤɪkts,/ /haʊˈɛvə,/ /wɜː/ /ˈdɪfrənt./ /laɪnd/ /ʌp/

against the wall, there were long thin wires attached to

/əˈgɛnst/ /ðə/ /wɔːl,//ðeə//wɜː/ /lɒŋ/ /θɪn/ /ˈwaɪəz/ /əˈtæʧt/ /tuː/

metal spheres. The spheres had been magnetized and

/ˈmɛtl/ /sfɪəz./ /ðə/ /sfɪəz/ /hæd/ /biːn/ /ˈmægnɪtaɪzd/ /ænd/

attracted or repelled each other all the time. In the centre of

the hall, there were a number of tall structures which

/ðə/ /hɔːl,/ /ðeə/ /wɜːr/ /ə/ /ˈnʌmbər/ /ɒv/ /tɔːl/ /ˈstrʌkʧəz/ /wɪʧ/

contained coloured lights. These lights flickered

/kənˈteɪnd/ /ˈkʌləd/ /laɪts./ /ðiːz/ /laɪts/ /ˈflɪkəd/

continuously like traffic lights which have gone mad.Sparks

/kənˈtɪnjʊəsli/ /laɪk/ /ˈtræfɪk/ /laɪts/ /wɪʧ/ /hæv/ /gɒn/ /mæd./ /spɑːks/

were emitted from small black boxes and red lamps flashed

/wɜːr/ /ɪˈmɪtɪd/ /frɒm/ /smɔːl/ /blæk/ /ˈbɒksɪz/ /ænd/ /rɛd/ /læmps/ /flæʃt/

on and off angrily. It was rather like an exhibition of

/ɒn/ /ænd/ /ɒf/ /ˈæŋgrɪli./ /ɪt/ /wɒz/ /ˈrɑːðə/ /laɪk/ /ən/ /ˌɛksɪˈbɪʃən/ /ɒv/

prehistoric electronic equipment. These peculiar forms not

/ˌpriːhɪsˈtɒrɪk/ /ɪlɛkˈtrɒnɪk/ /ɪˈkwɪpmənt./ /ðiːz/ /pɪˈkjuːliə/ /fɔːmz/ /nɒt/

only seemed designed to shock people emotionally, but to

/ˈəʊnli/ /siːmd/ /dɪˈzaɪnd/ /tuː/ /ʃɒk/ /ˈpiːpl/ /ɪˈməʊʃənli,/ /bʌt/ /tuː/

give them electric shocks as well!

/gɪv/ /ðɛm/ /ɪˈlɛktrɪk/ /ʃɒks/ /æz/ /wɛl!
