JUNOS系Juniper公司生产网络基楚设施设备专用操作系统，据公开资料透露，该公司生产的设备已经为欧美一些运营商、银行所采用，并有证据显示，中国某电信集团采用其设备建设全国新一带骨干承载网，每台设备单价似乎不低，单机箱报价数百万，远高于同类厂家。
JUNOS基于FreeBSD开发，可以移植安装于X86主机，并且启动系统自带逻辑路由器功能，可以在单个系统内构架出复杂的网络测试环境，因此是可选择地用于学习该项操作系统和IP协议的廉价解决方案。
JUNOS系统现已包括IP网络所有核心协议以及新近IETF草案所定义功能，如LDP、RSVP、IPv6、PIM、MPLS、BGP、ISIS等。其对协议支持的完整度应该超过目前流行的开源路由系统，但这未经证明。该系统有很好的人机帮助界面，具体相当的易用性，对于技术初学者而言，可以较快地熟练掌握，非常适合用于学习IP编址、路由协议等技术，将该虚拟机安装于普通的个人电脑，随身携带作为网吧维护、小型网络管理、网络建设、安装调试、协议测试等工作所需辅助工具。
