While-reading tasks  
The students are required to engage in detailed reading of the text part by part, and then answer the following questions according to their understanding of the text:
1. Why do governments encourage export but discourage import? What measures can government take to encourage export?
(The students can refer to the text or answer according to their own knowledge of this issue.)
2.      What do you know about GATT and WTO?
Brief Introduction of WTO
WTO was established on 1 January 1995. It is the legal and institutional foundation of the multilateral trading system. It provides the principal contractual obligations determining how governments frame and implement domestic trade legislation and regulations. And it is the platform on which trade relations among countries evolve through collective debate, negotiation and adjudication
It is based in Geneva , Switzerland .
Its essential functions are:
__ administering and implementing the multilateral and plural-lateral trade agreements which together make up the WTO;
__ acting as a forum for multilateral trade negotiations;
__ seeking to resolve trade disputes;
The structure of the WTO is dominated by its highest authority, the Ministerial Conference, composed of representatives of all WTO members.
3. What are the real functions of tariffs? How many kinds of tariffs have you learned about so far? ( Tariffs (Trade Barriers): Revenue Tariff; Protective Tariff; Prohibitive Tariff and Retaliatory Tariff; Regulatory Tariff; Anti-dumping Tariff)
1.      What are the main categories of Trade barriers?
(It mainly includes Tariffs, Non-tariff trade barriers and Export encourage policies. )
2.      Retell the different categories of Tariffs, the detailed kinds of Non-tariff trade barriers and the different kinds of Export encouragement policies.

prohibitive tariff, value added tax, regulatory tariff, foreign currency retention, tariff region, regional economic integration, Generalized System of Preference
B. Make a presentation about the main theories concerning International trad policies.
