4、North Korea threatens US and South with nuclear strikes
North Korea has threatened “indiscriminate” nuclear strikes against South Korea and the US if they push ahead with joint military drills.
The exercises, set to involve tens of thousands of troops, are an annual manoeuvre and always generate tension.
The order for a “pre-emptive nuclear strike of justice” was made in a statement put out by Pyongyang.
Such rhetoric is not uncommon and experts doubt the North’s ability to put nuclear warheads on its missiles.
Last year, North Korea threatened to turn Washington into a “sea of fire”.
North Korea sees the annual US-South Korean war games as a rehearsal for invasion.

5、Email inventor Ray Tomlinson dies at 74
Internet pioneer Ray Tomlinson, who is credited with the invention of email, has died at the age of 74.
The US computer programmer came up with the idea of electronic messages that could be sent from one network to another in 1971.
His invention included the ground-breaking use of the @ symbol in email addresses, which is now standard.
Tomlinson died of an apparent heart attack on Saturday, according to reports.
He sent what is now regarded as the first email while working in Boston as an engineer for research company Bolt, Beranek and Newman.
The firm played a big role in developing an early version of the internet, known as Arpanet.

6、Hadron Collider: Inside one of Cern’s particle detectors
Measuring 15m (49ft) across, the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is one of the particle detectors at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at Cern.
The CMS was switched off for maintenance when BBC Click visited allowing Spencer Kelly to be given a rare chance to glimpse inside it.
In 2012, the LHC detected the sub-atomic Higgs boson particle. The Higgs is a cornerstone of the Standard Model theory, which explains how particles interact.
Scientists working at the LHC announced the discovery of a new particle called the pentaquark in 2015. It was first predicted to exist in the 1960s, but was not proven until its detection at the LHC.
