SSML 1.1 enhances SSML 1.0 with features designed to improve usability of SSML for a broader set of human languages than SSML 1.0 addressed.
Changes include:
- better author control over language/alphabet used to write pronunciations (e.g. pinyin for Mandarin Chinese)
- more precise author control over voice selection
- better author control over behavior on voice selection failure
- better author control over behavior upon text language change
- support for non-whitespace word/token boundaries
- new trimming, speed and volume controls for recorded audio
- better author control over lexicon activation
