英英释义：a word, name, or phrase that very strongly suggests a particular idea, quality, etc.

例句：Wang Sicong has been a synonym for  "fuerdai", the rich second generation. 

" synonym"是“同义词”的意思，不过它常常可以用来表示XX的 “代名词”，强调两个事物之间联系紧密，我们可以用“synonym” 来描述一个人或事的流行程度。

比如，我们经常会称一位运气极佳的人为“活锦鲤”，许多网友称支付宝锦鲤获得者信小呆是“锦鲤本人”，就可以用这个词：

Weibo user Xin Xiaodai, the winner of Alipay's lucky draw campaign, has become a synonym for " the luckiest fish ". 

注意，当" synonym" 表示这个意思时，后面的介词常用for。 和“ synonym”一样可以表示“代名词”意思的词，常见的还有“byword”，用法也一样，我们可以放在一起记忆。

《经济学人》在报道硅谷时说硅谷一直都是创新的代名词：

Ever since Bill Hewlett and David Packard set up in a garage nearly 80 years ago, it has been a byword for innovation and ingenuity. 

~ ingenuity : Intelligent skill at inventing things and thinking of new ideas. It's the ability to think creatively about a situation or to solve problems in a clever way.  (例句：Inspecting the nest may require some ingenuity)

这里用到了“A is byword for B”， 我们也可以把这里的byword用synonym替换： Silicon Valley has been a synonym for innovation and ingenuity. 

~ Synonymous : If you say that one thing is synonymous with another, you mean that the two things are very closely associated with each other so that one suggests the other or one cannot exist without the other.  (例句：Paris has always been synonymous with elegance, luxury and style....)
