福尔摩斯是柯南•道尔创作的侦探小说的主人公，他是一位观察细致入微的私家侦探，也是一位既理性又博学的英国绅士。
在侦破案件时，他善用逻辑推理，一旦发现疑点，就全身心投入，废寝忘食，直到案情真相大白。他高超的破案技巧常令人心悦诚服，更让读者拍案叫绝。
陪同在福尔摩斯身边的是并不聪明、逻辑分析能力并不出众，但却是福尔摩斯唯一的朋友——华生医生。
华生虽是医生，但在侦破案件时却常常是福尔摩斯的得力助手，并在每次案件破获后负责将福尔摩斯破获案件的经过记录并发表。
华生在书中既是作家又是医生，实际上是柯南•道尔在描写自己。
作家简介
阿瑟•柯南•道尔（1859-1930），出生于苏格兰爱丁堡，毕业于爱丁堡医科大学，行医十余年，收入甚微，后专写侦探小说。

Irene Adler had always been the woman on Sherlock Holmes's mind. In his eyes, she is more important than any other woman. This isn't to say that he loved her. It was difficult to see hisemotions, especially love for a woman.
Many thought that emotions did notexistin his cold,preciseandintelligentmind. In my eyes, he was the most precisereasoningandobservingmachine in the world.
