练习材料: Lesson 92 Asking for trouble 时长:97s

It must have been about two in the morning when I returned home.

ɪt mʌst hæv biːn əˈbaʊt tuː ɪn ðə ˈmɔːnɪŋ wɛn aɪ rɪˈtɜːnd həʊm.

I tried to wake up my wife by ringing the door-bell, but she was fast asleep, so I got a ladder from the shed in the garden, put it against the wall, and began climbing towards the bedroom window.

aɪ traɪd tuː weɪk ʌp maɪ waɪf baɪ ˈrɪŋɪŋ ðə dɔː-bɛl, bʌt ʃiː wɒz fɑːst əˈsliːp, səʊ aɪ gɒt ə ˈlædə frɒm ðə ʃɛd ɪn ðə ˈgɑːdn, pʊt ɪt əˈgɛnst ðə wɔːl, ænd bɪˈgæn ˈklaɪmɪŋ təˈwɔːdz ðə ˈbɛdru(ː)m ˈwɪndəʊ.

I was almost there when a sarcastic voice below said,' I don't think the windows need cleaning at this time of the night.'

aɪ wɒz ˈɔːlməʊst ðeə wɛn ə sɑːˈkæstɪk vɔɪs bɪˈləʊ sɛd,' aɪ dəʊnt θɪŋk ðə ˈwɪndəʊz niːd ˈkliːnɪŋ æt ðɪs taɪm ɒv ðə naɪt.'

I looked down and nearly fell off the ladder when I saw a policeman.

aɪ lʊkt daʊn ænd ˈnɪəli fɛl ɒf ðə ˈlædə wɛn aɪ sɔː ə pəˈliːsmən.

I immediately regretted answering in the way I did, but I said, 'I enjoy cleaning windows at night.'

aɪ ɪˈmiːdiətli rɪˈgrɛtɪd ˈɑːnsərɪŋ ɪn ðə weɪ aɪ dɪd, bʌt aɪ sɛd, aɪ ɪnˈʤɔɪ ˈkliːnɪŋ ˈwɪndəʊz æt naɪt.'

'So do I,' answered the policeman in the same tone.'Excuse my interrupting you.

səʊ duː aɪ,' ˈɑːnsəd ðə pəˈliːsmən ɪn ðə seɪm təʊn.ɪksˈkjuːs maɪ ˌɪntəˈrʌptɪŋ juː.

I hate to interrupt a man when he's busy working, but would you mind coming with me to the station ?'

aɪ heɪt tuː ˌɪntəˈrʌpt ə mæn wɛn hiːz ˈbɪzi ˈwɜːkɪŋ, bʌt wʊd juː maɪnd ˈkʌmɪŋ wɪð miː tuː ðə ˈsteɪʃən ?'

'Well, I'd prefer to stay here,' I said.'You see, I've forgotten my key.'

wɛl, aɪd priˈfɜː tuː steɪ hɪə,' aɪ sɛd.juː siː, aɪv fəˈgɒtn maɪ kiː.'

'Your what ?' he called.

jɔː wɒt ?' hiː kɔːld.

'My key,' I shouted.'

maɪ kiː,' aɪ ˈʃaʊtɪd.'

Fortunately, the shouting woke up my wife who opened the window just as the policeman had started to climb towards me.

ˈfɔːʧnɪtli, ðə ˈʃaʊtɪŋ wəʊk ʌp maɪ waɪf huː ˈəʊpənd ðə ˈwɪndəʊ ʤʌst æz ðə pəˈliːsmən hæd ˈstɑːtɪd tuː klaɪm təˈwɔːdz miː.

sarcastic [sɑː(r)'kæstɪk]

adj. .讽刺的;嘲讽的;挖苦的showing or expressing sarcasm

And I hate to be so ironic and sarcastic about it but it's the truth.

我不想讽刺什么,但这是事实。

Excuse my interrupting you
