快快看UsingEnglish.com的科普贴!

1

Opening greeting

To whom it may concern*

To: The sales team

Dear John/ Mr Smith/ Mrs Smith/ Ms Smith/ Miss Smith/ Dr Smith

Hi (John)【

Hello (again)【

John【

(nothing)【不正式】

Dear Sir or Madam/ Dear Sir*/ Dear Sirs*

Always use a greeting. PhD, refer to them as "Professor" unless instructed otherwise. Taking a chance with "Mrs" "Mr." or "Ms." instead of "Dr." or "Professor" runs the risk of insult to the professor.

如果professor在回复你邮件时,签名用的是first name, it is still best to address him or her as "Dr. Last-name" or "Professor Last-name" in an email. Do not use the professor's first name unless you have been explicitly invited to do so. You should also be sure to spell your professor's name correctly.

2

Opening line

I’m writing to you about/ in connection with/ to…

It was great/ nice/ a pleasure to (finally) meet you at the conference last week.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly/ for your quick reply. Thanks/ Thank you for your letter/ email/ fax/ phone call last week

Sorry I haven’t been in touch.

How are you?/ How’s it going?/ How are things?

I hope you and your family are well.

Sorry to write to you out of the blue but…

I would like to introduce myself

(This is just) a quick/ short note to say…

With reference to your letter dated 12 January 2008,…

Sorry it’s been so long since I last wrote

It seems so long since we last met

Re: your fax (ref no. TH 2987), …

Briefly and politely state the reason why you are emailing.

Get to the point right away.

If you are emailing with a problem, suggest a solution. Be considerate, however, of how your solution might create additional work for the professor.

1. Regards / Best Regards(BR)

2. Sincerely / Sincerely Yours / Yours Sincerely

3. Cordially

1. Yours / Yours Truly / Truly

2. Best / Best Wishes

1. Love

2. Cheers

3. Take care

4. Thanks / Thank You

Sign it with your name and your student ID number (but never your Social Security number).

Use your first and last name, and even if you know that your professor knows you by name, include your course and section information below your name. You will save her having to figure out what course and section you're talking about if she needs to look up something about the course in order to answer your question
