A good leader must be a good teacher

On August 29th, the Chinese version of the book Harvard Business Review held the 2017 Talent Economy Forum "in Beijing. Noel Tichy, a world-renowned expert on leadership, delivered a speech at the forum.Noel Diqy is the former chairman of the Ge Corp leadership development center, promoting the success of Ge transformation with Jack Welch. Accordingly, he is also known as one of “the top 10 world's most talented management gurus”

Noel Diqy believes that the most important trait of all great leaders is that they are not only good leaders but also very good teachers. He holds the belief that each leader must summarize their opinions into a teachable point of view, which can be clearly communicated and inherited in the organization. That is to say, leaders have to turn their important opinions and decisions into ideas that can be taught. These ideas can be passed on to others, and usually have three parts.

The first is thought. Diqy said: "great companies have their core ideas, and this core idea also reflects leaders' distinct business thinking. Apart from this, it is the key that leaders can develop and articulate these ideas." This idea can also be a specific question, such as how to enter a market, how to achieve a strategic goal, how to be more creative, and so on.

The second is values. A leader's values are consistent with his ideas, for the reason that values make sure that these ideas can come true truly  in effect."". In general, organizational values include recognition of contributions, candid communication, and team work.

The third is emotional energy. When leaders spread their ideas, it is of great significance for them to put their emotions into ideas, especially when making critical decisions. At the same time, Tichy reckons the successful leader should also create positive energy, master a set of clear ideas and means to motivate employees to identify the organizational ideas and values".
