Chapter 24&25, 11.24

Vocabulary:

1.Writers are the custodians守护者 of memory

2.In his family history my father didn’t dodge回避 the central trauma of his childhood

3.Don’t look over your shoulder to see what relatives are perched栖息,停留 there.

4.Don’t rummage四处寻找,翻箱倒柜 around in your past

Reflection:

1.Writing Family History and Memoir

Remember this when you write your own family history. Don’t try to be a “writer.”

Writing from the point of view you once was means preserving the unity of a remembered time and place. On the contrary, from your view now, memoir will have its own integrity.

Write what you want to write, freely and honestly, and finish the job. Then take up the privacy issue.

Write your own story no matter how others think.

Make a series of reducing decisions. Think small.

2.Write as Well as You Can

But finally the purposes that writers serve must be their own...You will write only as well as you make yourself write.

书的结尾回归了主题。Write for the audience---yourself.
