强哥词汇说第三期：词根base
base是一个常见词，表示基础，但是它的来历却不是每个童鞋都清楚的。我们在很早的时候学过一个生活用词：basin表示脸盆。其实这个词是大有来历的，古罗马人将吃饭用的碗叫做bachinus，看来古人用盆吃饭，也是食量够大的。后来，骑士们所带着的头盔因为有点像倒扣过来的碗儿被称为basin,在英法战争的时候，这个词在13世纪带入到了英国，成了现在的样子，表示脸盆，用这个来洗脸，正因为是盆，所以就想到了其形状“凹陷”的特点，因此在意思上就进行了延展，basin也有“凹地、盆地”的意思，因为水往低处走，所以水会向洼地流淌，因此basin又有一个意思表示的是“流域”的意思，比如theAmazon Basin。
