          Spring Festival Gala on CCTV

                                        ——To Be or Not To Be

It has been a hot topic for a long time whether Spring Festival Gala on CCTV should be cancelled or not. Many people advocate that Spring Festival Gala on CCTV offers a wonderful opportunity for people who are scattered about the country with their own families and jobs to have the annual reunion and they can share the same happiness and excitement brought by the TV program. In addition, many performances are very impressive such as dragon dance, martial arts, festive and noisy parade and so on. Spring Festival Gala is an important cultural event for most Chinese.

However, every coin has two sides. Some people hold that CCTV Spring Festival Gala should be cancelled. One of the most significant reasons may be that this form of celebration forces people to spend the whole eve more passively because Spring Festival Gala usually lasts about 5 hours. Without Spring Festival Gala, people may have more time to exchange greetings, give warm welcoming embraces, and busy themselves with preparing the meal. After the big meal, people may sit cross-legged on the floor or rocking chairs to share amusing anecdotes, enjoy the memories, and even remember relatives long deceased.

As for me, my favor goes to the latter opinion. Except for the fact that Spring Festival Gala lasts too long, a great proportion of the programs are not as attractive as people suppose. What’s more, the forms of performances are lacking in originality and these performances can’t meet the demands of present audiences. My views may inspire disapproving looks from others, but I am still intent on spending the eve of Spring Festival with families, not with Spring Festival Gala.
