The Kite Runner was a book written by Khaled Hosseini, an Afghanistan writer. When I heard about the book , it was on the top of the book list. So I read it, with curious. And as a result, I leant on the back of my bed, tears streamed down my face constantly in 2 a.m.
Amir was the son of Baba, one of the richest and most respected merchants in Kabul. His friend Hassan, or better say his servant, was the son of Ali, the servant of Amir’s father. Hassan was always good to Amir, he helped him out of trouble, looked after him, and even helped Amir to win the kite fighting tournament, which meant the respect of father to Amir. However, something evil happened to Hassan, which gave the biggest burden to Amir because he vitnessed it happen without preventing it because of cowardice.
With the same reason, he decided to drive Hassan and Ali away. He put his new watch into Hassan’s room and told his father that he lost his new watch. “did you steal the watch?” he asked Hassan. The last time, Hassan helped Amir and said ”yes”. They left their home. Some time later, Amir and his father went to America to escape from the war.
Amir couldn’t bear the feeling of sin and managed to come back to find Hassan 20 years later. But he was 6 months late---- Hassan had died. Amir tried to find Hassan’s son, but could he finish his atonement and bring them rescue at last?...
It was such a moving story that I believe everyone can remember the words of Hassan:” For you, a thousand times over.” Everyone will be moved by Hassan, the faithful boy, by Amir, the man who tried to atone for the fault he had 20 years ago, by Sohrab, the boy who saved Amir as Hassan had done so many times before.
When Assef, the man who hurt Hassan 20 years before, beat Amir so seriously, Amir felt he was released——released from the sin that he carried for half his life. And we felt we were released too, because finally, we saw him stood up, being a man who can bear the responsibilities that he ignored before.
Another shocking truth was that in fact, Hassan was the son of Baba——he stole Ali’s beautiful wife, committing the most unforgiving sin, theft——so Hassan was Amir’s brother! And Ali knew that all. But he still kept silent, doing all the things for Amir and Baba. So did Hassan
Reading this, tears ran down my face. The strong power of love and faith expressed me and I felt I got refreshed. Maybe I can call it friendship——Hassan always regard Amir as his friend so he could give up anything to help him.
Another thing that make this book an special one is the description of Afghanistan. From this book, I knew many things that I could not even imagine before. The chaos there in war time and the astonishing truth of the power that controlled by evil people shocked me deeply.
This is a book that you cannot miss, especially for people who want to know whether they have lost the ability to be moved. Reading THE KITE RUNNER, and find the kite in your heart.
