Directed by director Mike Nichols,The Graduate was shown in1967.Benjamin Braddock ,the hero of the film,acted by Dustin Hoffman, is just graduated from college with a promising future in others’ eyes,but he get confused about his prospect.He was seduced by Mrs. Robinson at the night his parents held him a graduation party,he refused at first but accepted after a period of boring time.He begins to date with Mrs. Robinson.They often have sex but without any talking.Ben gets weary of their disgusting relationship.He starts to date with Elain-daughter of Mrs. Robinson’s under his parents’ urge.They talk a lot happily and fall in love with each other.Elain knows the relation between her mom and Ben ,then she leaves for Berkeley with much anger.Ben cannot forget Elain , so he decides to marry Elain and drives to Berkeley.Ben explains to Elain and get Elain’s forgiveness.Elain’s parents don’t allowed them to get together and force her to marry another man.Ben goes through various of difficulties and find the church at last.He tries his best to hold Elain’s hand ,then they escape from the church and jump on a bus with hope in their eyes.

The story happened in the age of turbulence.The black liberation movement,the women’s liberation movement,the anti-Vietnam War and the sexual liberation caused enormous impact on social rules that time.All American society sprang up the waves of revolt.So persons violated moral principles like Ben and Mrs. Robinson appeared.

The situation of the hero of the film called The Graduate was just similar to that of America.They were both at the junction point.He could not face the adult world he would get into very well,and wanted to escape.He was worrieed about his future,but he didn’t know what it was.It occurs 3 times that it was noisy outside but Ben thought or talk quietly as if he wasn’t a part of them.His appointment  

with Elain let him know what real love is,what is contrary to the relation between Mrs. Robinson and him.After a brief mistake,Ben found what he really wanted and struggled to get together with his lover Elain,at last,he did it.

Ben was just a shadow of the American society.America didn’t developed steadily until the period of economic recession and political chaos had passed.They both walk forwad to a hopeful future.
