Subject: Volunteers Wanted! Help Shape the CSM® Exam.
Dear,
Apply now for a spot on the Job Analysis Design Team to help update the CSM® exam. We're looking for 10 to 12 people to work in partnership with Scrum Alliance® staff and Prometric — a leading test development company — to design and interpret the results of a job analysis survey. The results of this survey will form the basis for a revision for the CSM exam, and potentially other Scrum Alliance products and programs.
We want a diverse group to ensure that people with as many of our credentials are represented. Read the competencies, characteristics, and expectations we're looking for and apply by the deadline of February 9, 2018.
NOTE: Applicants must sign a non-disclosure agreement for Scrum Alliance and the test development vendor. In-person participation on the east coast of the United States is required for the first meeting, March 1-2, 2018. Travel expenses necessary to participate in the face-to-face meeting will be paid by Scrum Alliance in accordance with our established travel policy. If you have any questions, please email me [email protected].
Best regards,
Alexxis Holquin CSM®, CSPO®
Volunteer Coordinator

STOPPING ALL PAYMENTS TO SCRUM ALLIANCE. TODAY.
I am actually often in a recruiting position.
And always look beyond certs - there are a few valuable ones as they expose and fully immerse us to cross-functional thinking, awareness and ability.
Most of us know Scrum is the most used agile framework. Hopefully we know it is just one option and needs *serious* supplementation.
Scrum Alliance, the largest Scrum cert body has some huge issues.
Half of their board left last year.
The Product Owner cert has *no* test, even though this is a crucial role.
Scrum Master, CSM, which according to Scrum Alliance would certify people to be capable to fill the role satisfactory, has 40 or so hard to fail multiple choice questions, making it another cert by attendance.
Certified Agile Leadership, again certifying in two days on key skills by career for money non agile practitioner trainers is another total joke on a key role.

Today and right now, had an interview for a role of Scrum Master, The profile was impressive and in less than 7 years of Industry experience, the Candidate had done all available certifications in the market (I lost the count midway in counting the number of certifications has done by the candidate).
The application of these certification badges was completely missing. The person could not answer any question as needed and 95% of the data as write in CV did not match the verbose the person was giving.
I am really dis-appointed at the quality of resources in the market and it seems that we are driven by certifications rather than knowledge as what the certificate would have provided.
I am afraid and willing to call out that our Agile Industry is moving in the wrong direction and will be falling in the trap that ISO / CMMIs of the world suffered, where the Org achieved the appraisal / assessment, but in true spirit the implementation was missing

I seriously think Scrum Alliance needs to revisit its policy on #CSM class size!
A typical CSM class in India has 50+ participants. I heard some even had 80-90 participants!!
As a trainer, I have struggled to pay individual attention to all participants when the class size crosses 20. No doubt most CSTs are excellent facilitators (much better than me) and can deliver the required content, but I wonder if they are able to pay individual attention to all participants. Do they have time to answer all their questions? And, more important than that, do they encourage participants to ask questions?
If not, I would call that a one-way communication, not a two way learning process.
Here are two simple ideas from my side that Scrum Alliance may want to consider:
- Define a maximum class size - say 25 or 30.
- Ease the CST approval process so we have more of them in India. I am no expert on this but have heard from many CST aspirants that it usually takes 3+ years, lots of international travel and (yes) lots of money to go through the process, without any guarantee you will become one. Yes, we are talking about probably the simplest certification training in the #Agile world. :-(
... (Please feel free to add your ideas to the list)
