(Adjectives&Prepositions)
一些形容词可以和某些固定的介词搭配使用。但是这种搭配是没有真正的模型的--你需要在遇到它们时记住积累它们。下面是一些介词的例子。
With 'at'
I'm quite good at English but I'm bad at maths and I'm terrible at physics.
With 'for'
Jogging is good for your health but smoking is bad for you.
The town is famous for its cheese.
和good for,bad for,famous for一样的还有qualified for,ready for,responsible for,suitable for等。
With 'of'
I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself, thank you.
I'm very fond of this old sweatshirt.
和capable of,fond of 一样的还有aware of,full of,tired of等。
With 'with'
We're very pleased with you progress.
You're not still angry with me are you?
和pleased with,angry with一样的还有bored with,delighted with,satisfied with等
With 'to'
She's the one who's married to a doctor,isn't she?
You'll be responsible to the head fo the Finance department.
注意responsible for用于something,而responsible to用于someone.
其他的形容词+介词组合还有interested in和keeen on。最好在遇到这样的祝贺时,注意记下来,积累起来。
二、形容词(可分级的/不可分级的) Adjective(gradable/non-gradable)
可分级的(Gradable)
可分级的形容词如:cold,hot,frightened。你可以说非常冷,或者有点冷。可分级的形容词用来描述事物的不同程度。
不可分级的(Non-gradable)
不可分级的形容词如:married,wooden。你不能very married或者a bit married。不可分级形容词不能表现不同程度。
诸如:terrifying,freezing,amazing这样的不可分级形容词。它们在定义时本身就已经包含了"very"的含义了,如freezing表示非常冷。
表述不同的程度时,可分级形容词和不可分级形容词往往和不同的副词搭配。
和可分级形容词搭配的副词
It's a bit cold in here.Shall I turn the fire on?
He's very interested in history. Why don't you buy him a history book?
This exercise is really difficult.I don't know any of the answers.
I'm extremely tired.I'm going to bed.
副词a bit,very,really,extremely,quite可以和可分级形容(gradable adjective)搭配。
可不可分级形容词搭配的副词
It's absolutely freezing in here.Shall I turn the fire on?
This exercise is absolutely impossible.
副词absolutely和completely可以不可分级形容词搭配
注意副词really可以同时和可分级形容词以及不可分级形容词搭配。
三、以-ed或-ing结尾的形容词(Adjectives ending in -ed and -ing)
以-ed结尾(如:bored,interested)和以-ing结尾(boring,interesting)的形容词总是容易让人困惑的。
以-ed结尾的形容词
以-ed结尾的形容词描述了情感--表述了人们对某事物的感觉,形容的对象是人。
I was very bored in the maths lesson.I almost fell asleep.
He was surprised to see Helen. She'd told him she was going to Australia.
以-ing结尾的形容词
以-ing结尾的形容词用于描述引起某种情感的事物,描述的对象是事物。
Have you seen that film? It's absolutely terrifying.(形容电影这一事物)
I could lessen to him for hours. He's one of the most insteresting people I've ever met.
下面是一些同时有-ed和-ing形式的形容词:
