The rise of novel in the 18th England

Neither imitating the lifestyle of the aristocrats, nor the gentle manners, could they beyond the barriers of the innate chivalry and shining personality. These new “Recent Richers” desperately wanted to reshape their social images, and made the costumed identity out of their life. The craving, longing, for identification made the shift of the social values inevitable, which also occurred stealthily in the cultural literature.

The luxuriant drama seemed tasteless for the news, they were in sore need of the nourishment for the mind to express their aspirations and resolve loneness. Known as the epic for the common ordinary people, novel appeared on the scene for its realistic property and the close to the mainstream life.

Romain Rolland once said: “The greatest help the arts made forthe history is being closer to the epoch and let it be more accessible to the emotional resources”. Nonetheless, it is not a wise choice to criticise the realistic of the novel only through the dark side of the life. If so, it is just another disguised Romance. The fact is that it does strive to describe every respect of the human experience, which is not only confined to the specific single class literal lifestyle. The realistic spirit of the novel is not manifested in the life content, but on the methods it perform as a whole.

It dominated the 18th England. As a reflection on the culture, the literature tools have been valuing the mainstream culture in society greatly. Therefore, it is well reasoned to paint the picture of the life of common people.

In this case, it is really not to be wondered at that the novel became the main prevalent achievements in English literature.
