Hello, I'm David Harper with the BBC News. Relatives and friends of a black man, whose shooting in the American city of Kenosha was a catalyst for several nights of violence, have criticized a visit there by Donald Trump. The President praised the police response to what he called domestic terror. He did not meet the family of Jacob Blake, who was shot by a white police officer last month. Peter Bowes assesses Mr. Trump's visit to Kenosha. A lot of people do see it as an issue of law and order and that clearly is one of the main planks now of the president's election campaign. And many of his critics say he's just trying to frighten people in other cities that this could happen essentially in their backyard as well. And it is very clear that he didn't come anywhere near to addressing those concerns of Black Lives Matter campaign as Democrats, who say that one of the key issues clearly is police brutality and racism across America.
The French President, Emmanuel Macron has defended the rights of people to make statements considered blasphemous. His comments come ahead of the trial on Wednesday of 14 people accused of assisting the Islamic gunmen who carried out the massacre at the satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo. This is because often this right to criticize or to blaspheme again, I'm not thinking of Charlie Hebdo at all. But more broadly, what we can see in our society, it does not imply in reverse common decency, civility, or respect. Because in France, there are all these freedoms, freedom of conscience, freedom of expression, freedom of journalists to make their choices, freedom of blasphemy. Mr. Macron payed tribute to the 12 people killed at the magazines offices in Paris five years ago.
An international aid group says that in the past five years, more than 200000 unaccompanied child migrants have sought asylum in Europe. Save the Children says more than 700 children have died making the crossing. Here's Emily Holler. Child migrants face an increased risk of abuse and exploitation, especially if there alone. Five years ago, Europe struggled with an influx of more than 1 million migrants and refugees. Some EU states fell out over how to respond. Save the Children's report accuses European countries are failing to meet the needs of those trying to escape conflict or violence. The charity says that while some children have been given safety, harsh border policies prevent the most vulnerable from being reunited with their families. New EU proposals on migration reform are expected in the next few months.
Students in Hungary have blockaded themselves in the country's top theater and film university in Budapest for a second night. They're demonstrating against the attempt by the government to impose its own conservative management team on the traditionally liberal college. The entrance to the building has been barricaded as students try to prevent new pro-government administration from entering. World news from the BBC.
