看美剧学英语（1）：你真好！

看美剧学英语，是提高听力口语，学习最地道口语表达方式的绝佳途径。这点毋庸置疑。不过美剧还是要精挑细选的，并非都“开卷有益”，有些价值观容易误导年轻人。

为什么选择美剧《吉尔莫女孩》？

简言之，因为它语速适中，内容健康向上，表达地道。

《吉尔莫女孩》S1E1（第一季第一集）。

剧情简介：本剧的主角是妈妈Lorlei和女儿Lory，围绕他们的生活、工作、学习展开一系列的故事。同时，在亲情，友情，爱情的体验中，他们每一个人都得到了成长，在每一个人的生命里都留下了无法磨灭的印记。

Lorlei，未婚先孕，16岁时生下来女儿Lory，离开富有的原生家庭，靠着自己的努力独自抚养女儿长大。时间流逝如同白驹过隙，转眼间，Lory已然16岁，成为了一个亭亭玉立的高中生；而Lorlei已步入中年，在一家酒店做行政经理。

pass through: go through a town, stopping there for a short time but not staying.经过市镇等（逗留但不长久）。

例子：we came to say hello as we were passing through.我们路经此镇，顺便来看看。

2. That’s possibly very sweet of you. 你真好。

sweet: 

1）用来指”糖果”时，可以说，a sweet（一块糖果）, five sweets，many sweets.

2）作为形容词：sweet tea, sweet wine.

3）用来形容人，表示善良的，温柔的，可亲的

If you describe someone as sweet, you mean that they are pleasant, kind, and gentle towards others.

例子：how sweet of you to think of me.

She looked so sweet and innocent.

3. Has the plumber attended to Room 4 yet?

attend to: means to deal with sth, 处理，从事于…

例子：i have business to attend to.我要处理生意。（来自《绝望的主妇》）

The child is now old enough to attend to his own needs.

4. It is due tomorrow.

due: 形容词，“到期的，预期到达的”。

If something is due at a particular time, it is expected to happen, be done, or arrive at that time.

例子：your rent is due at the end of the month. 月底你的租金就到期了。

Mr Carter is due in London on Monday. 卡特先生预期星期一到达伦敦。

Due to =owing to, 因为，由于

例子：Due to the bad weather, the airplane was delayed.
