1.“Who’d be writing to you?” sneered Uncle Vernon, shaking the

letter open with one hand and glancing at it.

He sneered at people who liked pop music. 他嘲笑喜欢流行音乐的人。


2.clutched her throat and made a choking noise.

 clutch grasp grip紧握;抱紧;抓紧

She stood there, the flowers still clutched in her hand. 她站在那里,手里仍然紧握着花束。

He grasped my hand and shook it warmly. 他热情地抓住我的手握了起来。

‘Please don't go,’ he said, gripping her arm. “请别走。”他紧紧抓住她的手臂说。



3.“Get out, both of you,” croaked Uncle Vernon, stuffing the letter back inside its envelope.

bawl bellow怒吼

He sat in his office bawling orders at his secretary. 他坐在办公室里,对秘书厉声发号施令。


   "I didn't ask to be born!" she bellowed. 

 “我没有请求被生下来!”她大声吼道。
