[Explaine the theme and check the role]
Dear toastmasters and distinguished guest,
If Only v.s. Not Only, can you tell the difference between those two connection words? OK, I have two examples~
This is Mengyao, I'm not only a member of EF Phoenixes toastmasters club, but also today's meeting's tostmaster. Am I right?
I strongly believe that only if I am a beautiful girl, I could win the BEST award whenever I join our regular meeting. Am I right? Oh, thanks for your dishonesty:)
Now, Back to our theme.
It seems obviously for all of us that the logic of only if (只要...就.../只有...才...) is wrong and should be wrong at most of the time.
When we were young, our teachers may have said "only if you good good study, you can day day up and have a bright future. So study hard." ;When we just started our career life, we may thought that "only if I performed well within my scope of work, my leader can be satisefied."
But as time goes by, we can found the logic of Not only (but also) is more close to te truth.
Students should not only study hard, but also learn the world and build up their own personality; And during work, we should not only focus on our own scope of work but also look at your leaders' vision and learn to create a better working environment for better personal growth.
Many factors contribute to one result. Do you agree with me? But this is only the first step. Actually, how to find those factors and the key factors seems to be more important. Different people may have different ideas, some are common while some are not. It's good to share and good to learn just from this meeting.
[Function role introduction]
Since it's important not only to finish our meeting, but also run professionally on time.
Please welcome Simon to introduce the role of timer.
Next, let's welcome our elegant and cute gril Joss to introduce her role as the language professor. For this role, she is not only a grammarian but also the ah-counter.
[Workshop]
As toastmasters, we should know the value of the manual. When we plan to make speech, we learn the manual first to learn the objectives and methods; when we become officers, we learn the manual first to learn our role and goal. But what we need to realize today is whether we should treat our manual in the only if logic?
Today we have a special guest here with us, she is not only a sinior toastmaster with over 10 years experience, but also the international speech contest champion of district 60 in 2012. Let's welcome Yan Li "The big things and the small things - out side the manual".
[Prepared speech]
The first speeker is Leo, he is not only handsome but also hard working, do you want to know more about him? First, let's welcome his evaluator to read the objectives of his project.
The second speeker is our Alicia Wang, she is not only a senior leader but also a senior speeker. Today she is going to bring us a 9 mins speech under the AC manuel: Story telling. First, let's welcome his evaluator to read the objectives of his project.
The third speeker is our Stella, she is not only our VPE but also a great story teller. Today she is going to share her ideas on how to manage money. First, let's welcome his evaluator to read the objectives of his project.
