嗑希腊神话学英语 19 Hecatoncheires

地母Gaia与天神Uranus所生的另外一组异兽三联，合称为赫卡同刻伊瑞斯“Hecatoncheires”

Hecatoncheires的字头是：hecto-，hect-这个希腊语字头表示:一百，许多。

英语中借用这个词头：

hectare: = hect-(100)+are(1公亩等于100平方米)=100公亩

hectogram 这个词的意思就不难猜出来了吧  :) 

hectograph: n. (hecto许多+graph写，画）胶版印刷, 胶版

再来一个:  hectometer

再猜一个： hectoliter

再看Hecatoncheires的字根-cheir-或-chir-意思是“手臂”。比如：

《神谱》是这样描述的：

“...three other sons were born of Gaira and Uranus, great and doughty beyond telling, Cottus and Briareos and Gyes, presumptuous children. From their shoulders sprang an hundred arms, not to be approached, and each had fifty heads upon his shoulders on their strong limbs, and irresistible was the stubborn strength that was in their great forms.”

他们三个的名字分别是：科托斯（Cottus）、布里阿瑞俄斯（Briareos）和古埃斯（Gyes）。

在罗马神话中与Hecatoncheirs对等的是：Centimanes，构词方式一样：

        Centimane=centi(100)+man(手)
