VMware ESX/ESXi 3.5 Update2授权计时器BUG临时解决方法

本次发现的 BUG 主要有涉及范围： VMware ESX3.5/ESX3i Update2 所有版本

故障表现：
此故障一般会出现如下提示 :

1. “A General System error occurred: Internal error”

2. Error executing VMware command [start].   [-999:The poweron operation failed unexpectedly.]. The originating server for this exception is

3. 只要涉及到有关 ESX3.5/ESX3i 和 License 授权相关的功能、产品等等 .

4. 查看 /var/log/vmware/hostd.log 会看到以下提示 :

Aug 08 8:47:55.496: vmx| [msg.License.product.expired] This product has expired.
Aug 08 8:47:55.496: vmx| Be sure that your host machine's date and time are set correctly.
Aug 08 8:47:55.496: vmx| There is a more recent version available at the VMware Web site: "[url]http://www.vmware.com/info?id=4[/url]".

 

经过测试， U2 的 BUG 如果在使用 NFS 或者 ISCSI 存储的环境下 Templates 的使用也会有影响 , 据说是因为授权的计数器出了问题，所以 U2 的 ESX 在 8 月 12 号后都会出现这个错误 . 只有涉及到 License 授权的使用都会有影响 .

 

故障原因： 由于 VMware 内部的 Timer 出现问题，导致现在的 ESX 产品已经过期，导致 License 变成过期无效

解决办法：

1.    停止 NTP 服务器

2.    将 ESX/ESXi 服务器的时间改到 8.12 之前 即可（或改到更早，如调到 7 月份，免得每天都反复调）。

修改方式：

1.    登陆 VI CLient ，找到 ESX Host > Configuration > Time Configuration > Properties ，修改即可

2.    登陆 ESX3.5/ESX3i 服务器，在命令行中执行：

#service ntpd stop

#date -s “08/10/2008”

 

听说这个 BUG 很快会就 PATCH ，使用 U2 的兄弟请留意

An issue has been uncovered with ESX/ESXi 3.5 Update 2 that causes the product license to expire on August 12, 2008.

 

Follow the steps below to correct this issue:

1. Read the following Knowledge Base articles first:
   • Fix of virtual machine power on failure issue, refer to KB 1006716
   • For VI 3.5, refer to KB 1006721 for deployment consideration and instruction
   • For VI3.5i, refer to KB 1006670 for deployment consideration and instruction
2. Download and apply the express patch according to the product(s) you have:
   
   • VMware ESXi 3.5 Update 2 Express Patch
   • VMware ESX 3.5 Update 2 Express Patch

升级步骤 如下：

1.   首先需要将进行更新的ESX Server 运行的虚拟机先关闭或者进行迁移，然后将ESX 进入到Enter Maintenance Mode 。

2.   将下载的ESX350-200806812-BG.zip 文件上传到ESX Server

3.   登录Server Console 并且进入ZIP 的所在目录

4.   使用命令unzip  ESX350-200806812-BG.zip 将Patch 解压出来

5.   进入解压的目录，使用命令 ＃esxupdate update 更新

6.   更新完成后使用命令# service mgmt-vmware restart 重新启动HOSTD 服务

7.   检查ESX 系统日期时间是否正确
