• Enable Flash and Flex automated testing without the need to recompile. Previously, to enable a Flash or Flex application for automated testing with TestComplete, developers had to compile the application in a special way (for example, with TestComplete’s FlexClient.swc library included). Now, TestComplete can dynamically embed the testing library into SWF files on the fly, so that you can test Flash and Flex applications without re-compiling them for testing. This can be done in any of the following ways:

  • Install the debug version of Adobe Flash Player and configure it to automatically embed the testing library into all SWF files.
  • Load the tested application via a special wrapper web page that is included in TestComplete.

  As these approaches do not require any changes in the tested Flash or Flex application, you can test the application’s release version, that is, the version that will be shipped to customers.

• TestComplete 8.20 introduces new techniques for testing Flash applications that provide better automation capabilities. Namely:

  • TestComplete now identifies all the objects inside Flash applications and shows the complete object hierarchy.
  • TestComplete now provides access to native (internal) properties of Flash objects. This allows you to enhance your tests so that they write and read values directly to and from Flash objects. You can also use native object properties with Name Mapping for more robust object identification.

  The above-mentioned improvements are achieved by using Flash applications together with TestComplete’s new Flash testing library. This library can be either embedded dynamically into an application (in this case, no changes in the application are required), or pre-compiled into the application - whatever suits your needs best.

Rich Internet Applications

In TestComplete 8.1 we significantly enhanced the functionality for testing Rich Internet Applications specifically the support for Microsoft Silverlight 4, Adobe AIR and Adobe Flex. This includes platform specific support for objects, methods and properties and improves the tester’s ability to fully automate the functional testing of Rich Internet Applications.

Data Generator

A new built-in data generator wizard helps generate pseudo-random data for your tests, using 19 built-in generators for various data types: numeric values, addresses, names, e-mails, composite strings (that include data of other generators), GUIDs and so on. The generated data can be saved in the form of Excel worksheets or TestComplete’s Table variables and then used in data-driven and load tests.

New application types, more controls and other cool features

Other enhancements include new supported application types for Java 7 (both 32- and 64-bit applications), Embarcadero RAD Studio XE (Delphi and C++Builder applications), Qt ver. 4.7.0 and Sybase PowerBuilder 12 .NET.   Now TestComplete supports more controls by Developer Express, Syncfusion and Microsoft. The checkpoints for images and files feature new automatic options, including: sliders for specifying checkpoint parameters, automatic calculation of comparison tolerance for minor changes, and an easier way to specify a mask for comparing images. Also, we included a number of enhancements to our load testing engine, including run-time monitoring, server side counters and dynamic parameter values.

Important note on PowerBuilder 12.0 support
Support for testing .NET applications created using PowerBuilder 12.0 is not available by default in this fix pack. You must install PB12DotNetSupport patch to enable Rational Functional Tester version 8.1.1.2 to support testing of .NET applications.
If you install this patch, you cannot test .NET applications created using PowerBuilder versions 10.5, 11.2 or 11.5. However, uninstalling this patch should enable you to test .NET applications created using the earlier versions of PowerBuilder.IBM Rational Functional Tester Version 8.1.1.2 includes defect fixes to previous versions of Rational Functional Tester and the following enhancements:

• Dojo 1.4 controls support: Record and test HTML applications that contain Dojo controls that are developed using Dojo Toolkit version 1.4.
• Flex 4.0 support: Test functional aspects of applications developed using Adobe Flex 4.0. You can record and playback scripts against Adobe Flex 4.0 user interfaces inside a Web browser and verify that the application functions correctly.
• Siebel 8.1 support: Rational Functional Tester provides extended functional testing support for Oracle Siebel 8.1 applications.
• Mozilla Firefox 3.6 support: Supports testing of applications loaded in Mozilla Firefox 3.6.
• PowerBuilder 12.0 support: Test Win32 applications that are created using Sybase PowerBuilder 12.0.
• Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) support: Rational Functional Tester provides support for testing applications on a computer that has Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) setup on Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.

Important note on PowerBuilder 12.0 support
Support for testing .NET applications created using PowerBuilder 12.0 is not available by default in this fix pack. You must install PB12DotNetSupport patch to enable Rational Functional Tester version 8.1.1.2 to support testing of .NET applications.
If you install this patch, you cannot test .NET applications created using PowerBuilder versions 10.5, 11.2 or 11.5. However, uninstalling this patch should enable you to test .NET applications created using the earlier versions of PowerBuilder.
