2. RMDS Basic Concept

RMDS (Reuters Market Data System) is a line of products aimed at the financial market place and designed to meet the needs of organizations wishing to distribute, display, and manipulate a variety of real-time and non-real-time information in an open systems environment.

- MDH

The Market Data Hub (MDH) with the Source-Sink Library (SSL) and TIBCO Rendezvous are the heart of the system, providing the networked data distribution architecture. Put simply, the MDH and SSL facilitate the reliable flow of information between Services and Distributors. In MDH 5.0, TIBCO Rendezvous can also be used to provide this movement of data.

- P2PS

The Point-to-Point Server (P2PS) provides a consolidated point-to-point distribution solution for trading room systems. Information is distributed over proprietary Reuters protocols built on top of TCP/IP.

As a distribution device for market data, the P2PS can deliver any type of data made available through a Source Distributor process such as quotes, chains, time and sales, and ANSI pages, as well as Analytic Data System (ADS) and Data Transformation System (DTS) content. Furthermore it provides the ability to source data from the News Distribution System (NDS) either directly or through cascaded P2PS instances.

The P2PS is the sink distributor replacement when it is configured as a P2PS LAN. It accepts direct client TCP/IP connections, called sink mounts on port triarch_sink (8101/tcp). The first 5 components are very similar in functionality to what was available in a Triarch system. If one P2PS fails, the client application will fail over to another P2PS, as part of the failover it will request new images from the failover P2PS.

- RTIC

The TIC-RMDS Edition, or RTIC, provides multicast distribution of quotes, news, and time series data to existing SSL/SFC sink applications that have been tested with the SSL Library on TIB/RV interface. The RTIC enables TIB/Active Enterprise integration with TSA via TIB/Rendezvous.

The advantages of the RTIC over a normal sink distributor are linked to the type of communication between the client applications and the RTIC. A sink distributor establishes a point to point tcp/ip connection to every sink (client) application. Distributing images and updates to every application individually. The RTIC will publish updates to any client application that is interested through a broadcast mechanism

The RTIC, TIC RMDS version (Tibco Information Cache), is similar to the P2PS. It keeps an up to date cache of the images and it will send updates to the client applications using multicast (Tibco Rendezvous). In a TIB MDS system there will always be a TIC talking to the client applications, but the source feeds do not connect through source distributors. TICs will always be installed as a fault tolerant pair, and the failover is seamless to the client.
