你的专业，和你爸妈口中的你的专业，似乎从来都不是一个东西；如果再转述到亲戚那里，那这个差别就更大了。
每次想想自己这磨人的专业，再听听别人口中那接地气的描述，简直比窦娥还委屈啊。
“英语专业”其实可以分成好多细分专业：
English Language and Literature
英语语言文学
English Translation
英语笔译
Simultaneous Interpretation
同声传译
Business English
商务英语
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
英语教学
不过这些在爸爸妈妈和亲戚眼里都不重要，概括起来只需要一个短语：学英语的。
更可怕的是，你的同学们对你的看法也都是：
你学英语的啊？那你看美剧不用看字幕的吧？
你听英文歌都听得懂的吧？
这个怎么翻译啊？
这上面写的什么？
你不是专八吗？
哈喽~ 在吗？你帮我翻译一段东西吧~ 一点点，而且不难。
已经被整得没脾气了，不过说真的，英语方向的同学被误认成“学英语的”，似乎差别也不算太大。
但还有好多其他专业的同学，就没这么幸运了，
他们啊，真是跳进黄河也洗不清了。
1、神经病学
我：I study neurology, which means I study the diseases of the nervous system.
我是学神经病学的，也就是研究神经系统的疾病的。
别人：He studies psychopaths.
他研究精神病人的。
那是精神病学（pathergasiology），谢谢。
2、地质学
我：My major is geology. What we study is the evolutionary process of the Earth.
我的专业是地质学，我们研究的是地球的演化过程。
别人：He studies geography.
他搞地理的。
更有人：He does mining.
他挖煤的。
甚至有人：He studies stones. I guess he can appraise jewelry.
他研究石头的，应该会鉴定珠宝。
3、地震学
我：My major is seismology. We study the propagation of elastic waves. And we study the environmental effects that earthquakes bring.
我的专业是地震学，我们研究的是震波的传播，也研究地震对环境的影响。
别人：He predicts earthquakes.
他预测地震的。
我倒是想。
4、植物学
我：My field is phytology. We study the forms, distribution and evolution of plants.
我研究的领域是植物学，我们研究的是植物的形态、分布以及进化。
别人：She plants trees.
她种树的。
是的，而且要少生孩子。
5、园艺学我：I study horticulture. This science studies the art of growing flowers, vegetables and fruits. We also study the conservation of plants.
我学的是园艺学，这门科学研究的是如何种植花草蔬菜，同时也研究如何保护植物。
别人：She grows vegetables and flowers.
她种菜种花的。
6、医学
具体研究领域：艾滋病对细胞的感染
我：I study how HIV virus infects cells.
我研究的领域是艾滋病对细胞的感染。
别人：You know anyone in the hospitals?
你在医院有熟人么？
这么直接，都懒得曲解我的专业了么？
7、服装设计
我：The formal name of our major is Fashion Design and Engineering. We don't only study how to design clothes, but also study the fashion market. Sometimes we even study human engineering.
我们专业的官方名称叫服装设计与工程，我们除了研究怎么设计服装，也研究整个服装市场，有时候还要学一学人体工学。
别人：You make clothes? That's cool!
你做衣服的啊？好厉害啊！
还有特别天真的：So, do you get discounts when buying clothes?
你们买衣服有折扣吗？
一言不合就友尽的：Can you design a garment for me?
你帮我设计一件衣服吧。
8、人机交互
我：I study human-computer interaction. It's a frontier branch of computer science.
我学的是人机交互，是现在计算机科学里面很前沿的一个分支。
别人：Ahh, so you do information technology.
啊~ 搞 IT 的啊。
企图争辩的我：Ehh, yes, but not exactly. What we focus on is the interactive interface between computers and the users.
恩，对，不过也不准确。我们是专门研究电脑和使用者之间的交互界面的。
别人：So can you repair computers?
那你会修电脑吗？
这个进展是不是有点快？
9、食品科学我：My major is food science. We study the biological, physical and engineering issues of foods.
我的专业是食品科学，我们研究的是和食品有关的生物学、物理学还有工程问题。
别人：Baking breads, I suppose.
好像是烤面包的。
另一个别人：Which bakery brand does he work for? Does he get any employee discount?
他在哪家面包房工作啊？有员工价吗？
来呀，实验室里的试验品都免费，互相伤害呀。
10、应用心理学
我：I study applied psychology. What we do is using psychological methods to solve practical problems. Sometimes we also study animals.
我学的是应用心理学，我们研究的是用心理学的方法去解决一些实际问题，有时候也研究动物。
别人：Psychology? Then you know what I'm thinking, right?心理学？那你是不知道我心里在想啥？
不，不是算命的。
