whatever 用于疑问句中，用以加强what的语气，做“究竟什么”解，口语中很常见。
- you see
- that's the trouble.
- there's nothing I can do about it.

朗读重点：
音标发音: /æ/

单元音前元音，这个音标在英式音标中的符号是/æ/，美式音标与之对应的发音符号也是[æ]。
发音方法: 现在来看看我们应该如何正确的发出/æ/这个音。
1）嘴唇向两侧尽量分开，嘴巴张开较大，上下齿之间大约可容纳两个手指的宽度。
2）舌前部在发音过程中抬起，舌尖稍微接触下齿背。
3）发音时逐渐压低舌头和下颚，尽可能夸张，震动声带，发出/æ/音。
注意：/æ/个短元音，但在实际发音中有一定的长度。 要注意与/e/的区别

新概念第三册的朗读语速接近常速，比较快，不再像之前第二册那样还有明显的维持匀速稍微慢一点的语速。好在现在每天的课文是一半的文章，本来三册的一般文章都长于第二册，但是一分为二，就还可以接受了。
