ARSENAL LINE UP COQUELIN REPLACEMENTS
Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon and Nice’s Nampalys Mendy are all on Arsenal’s shortlist to replace the injured Francis Coquelin.
The Gunners revealed on Monday that they expect Coquelin to be sidelined for a minimum of two months – withWenger admitting he’ll “do what is needed” in Januaryto replace the midfielder.
TheDaily Mailclaims these targets will already be known to Wenger with his scouts regularly taking in some of Europe’s finest central midfielders – and it is Bender, Carvalho and Mendy, who have been identified.
Grzegorz Krychowiak at Sevilla, who has recently appointed an English-based agent, has been watched but he hasjust signed a new long-term dealwith the La Liga club.
Lazio star Lucas Biglia was one of those considered during the summer of 2013; but at 29, the Gunners are unlikely to take a punt on the Argentine as their would be little sell-on value given his age.
Of the players identified, Wenger may be most tempted to move for Carvalho after the player admitted recently he is a huge admirer of the Gunners, having been a long-term fan of the club.
