One good turn deserves another

Today, my father and I called at some people who provided him support when he was such a poor student that could not afford tuition fees. He did not just go and visit, but gave some money. I surprisingly found that he had given 500 yuan per person, so I spoke in whisper with him, asking him how much money he borrowed from them when having economic difficulty in schooling. Excepting telling me the specific figure, he emphasized on the meaning of those money, saying it was because of those small amount of money that he could avoid dropping out of school tragically and managing to leave the rural village finally.

When I have graduated from senior school, my father not only gradually let me know those things, but also deliberately showed me how much money he repaied them. I understand that he want to teach me the significance of appreciation, but what impresses me most is the financial return resulted from a moral behaviour long time ago. Maybe because of sympathy, those people, who loaned my father money at that moment, might not expect anything in return. However, after twenty years, their kindness at that extremely tough time allows they to get rewards much higher than the money they offered.

Of course, this post is definitely not to suggest that readers should invest money to those potentially successful people, dreaming of making a lot of money back someday. On the contrary, I simply want to advise that we should give helps to those people coming from a deprived background, so today they can handle a crisis easily. Meanwhile, you deserve a long-standing reputation as well as a substantial return in future.

It is no doubt a win-win outcome, not a zero-sum game. From the basis of rational thought, why don’t you start to embrace kindness from now on? I always believe however wealthy you are, the one giving you a hand when you are in trouble is the person worthy remembering forever and making friend with.
