1. exponentially

exponential means growing or increasing very rapidly. 指数级别的增长

e.g. Within the 21st century, an exponentially rising extinction rate might easily wipe out most of the species on the planet at the present time.

2. nowhere close to enough to

e.g. The coverage is increasing gradually but, unfortunately, is nowhere close to enough to halt the acceleration of species extinction.

3. halt

when a person or a vehicle halts or when something halts them, they stop moving in the direction they were going and stand still.

e.g. She held her hand out flat, to halt him.
