My drawing was not a picther of a hat . It was a picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant . But since the grow-ups were not able to understand it,I made another drew the inside of the boa constrictor ,so that the grown-ups could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained .My Drawing Number Two looked like this:

我画的并不是一顶帽子，而是一条吞吃了大象的蟒蛇。但是由于大人们无法理解他，所以我又画了一幅蟒蛇的内部结构图，这样大人们就可以更清楚的理解它了。唉，大人们总是需要解释才能明白。我的第二幅作品是这样的：

The grown-ups’ response,this time,was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictor,Whether from the inside or the outside,and devote myself instead to geography ,history,arithmetic and grammar.That is why,at the age of six,I gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter.I had been disheartened by the failure of my Drawing Number Two.Growen-ups never understand anything by themselves,and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.

这一次，大人们给出的回答是让我放下我画的蟒蛇，不论它是内部画像还是外部画像，并建议我花些时间在地里、历史、算术和语言上。这就是为什么在我六岁的时候，我放弃了一份我可能会从事的伟大的职业，比如当个画家。我为我的第二幅画作的失败遭遇而感到沮丧。大人们从不会自己去理解任何事情，对于小孩子来说总是向他们做出解释是非常令人疲惫的。

So then I chose another profession ,and learned to pilot airplanes.I have flown a little over all parts of the world;and it is true that geography has been very useful to me.At a glance I can distinguish China from Arizona .If one gets lost in the night,such knowledge is valuable.

所以随后我选择了另一个职业，成为一名飞机驾驶员，我几乎飞遍了世界的每一个角落，我发现与我来说，地理确实是一门很有用的学科，我能够一眼就区分出中国和和亚利桑那。如果在夜晚迷路，这些知识是十分宝贵的。
